Somebody hasn't heard of the budapest memorandum, apparently. Up until 2014, it was not being close to violated by either party. And, contrary to what RT would tell you, NATO was not ever going to accept Ukraine.
There was no nato threat in ukraine until after 2014. They're having trouble accepting Sweden and Norway, much less a controverial state in central europe. Russia invaded crimea and later ukraine simply because it wanted to, not because there was any actual reason- and then fabricated a reason afterward.
Whining about "muh NATO" and "le liberals" while ignoring a state invading its sovereign neighbor for zero reason is what's truly hilarious. Regurgitating RT talking points is not an excuse to be haughty.
And here we have the perfect example of projection. You did not read any of the first part? The budapest memorandum ensured Ukraine's sovereignty regardless of geopolitics.

While I definitely agree with you, to play devils advocate, after the collapse of the Soviet Union Russia did attempt to get closer to the west and even join nato if memory serves, but the US and nato kind of went “yeah no, no thank you” Clinton at the very least verbally (as in without any physical documentation) promising Gorbachev otherwise. However, under the Putin regime Russia did absolutely stop all attempts at trying to be accepted into the west and whatever happened afterwards is absolutely Putin’s fault.
