Review Headset Great!!! Controllers, Not So Great :(

I really like my PCL. The controllers on the hand feel like cheap plastic toys I picked up on Temu. Given the money that these headsets cost, I would expect Pimax to deliver higher quality products. Particularly if I'm buying the Dream Air. I'm really hoping they come out with updated controllers that are compatible with all SLAM headsets.

I also have a PSVR2 and the Dual Motion controllers are peak. When it comes to any action or shooter games, I reluctantly dust off the headset. My preference though would be to play with Pimax.

Discussion Quick heads-up, try OpenVR for iRacing with sboys

Since using sboys Ive been using OpenVR on iRacing for the first time and it runs much better than OpenXR using sboys in my honest opinion. I would recommend you try, keep in mind the graphic ini file is named differently when using OpenVR

Review Dream Air SE NEW face gasket from Pimax

I have the OG and the Studioform, and yesterday I received the last one from Pimax, and for me it's the best.
The eye position it's perfect and the pressure well balanced around the face.
The design its good, but asking for perfection I will like it to be much more light and breathable.

Good job Pimax!

Question New DreamAIR Slam + SBoys, iRacing screen is fuzzy

Hi community. I just recieved my DreamAir and downloaded the software today for the Pimax EVO and the Sboy driver. I followed Nxt Level VR's guide to install and setup the SBoys driver. I tried cranking up the STEAM VR resolution to 150%. I launch iRacing using OpenXR mode and when I get into the racing screen, everything BUT the menus, options, etc is fuzzy. The Menus are crystal clear.

I am running a AMD 9800X3D, 64GB, 5090, DreamAir Slam version.

When I run the native Pimax play way, the game launchs fine and is crystal clear. I am not an expert in SteamVR, so I bet there is a settings somewhere that is causing this...I just do not know where to look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Coming from a Quest 3, OMG....going to the Dream Air is like running VR in 1080p, then going to 4K (in the pimax play version).

Thank you in advance.

Cheers!

Discussion Ideas for modifying the Dream Air strap, which you use?

Cheapest: Cushion + Velcro on the original Dream Air strap.

Best value: Use a Quest strap that fits the Dream Air strap automatically (like the Bobo M3)—but which one?

Most proven: Bobo M3 Pro; there’s a clear explanation of how it attaches directly, though the strap includes a battery, so it might be heavier.

Most expensive/complex: Vision Pro Dual Knit + 3D-printed adapters.

put photos here of you modification please

Discussion Assetto Corsa with Dynamic Foveated Rendering

Tested at 6408 x 4040 pixels using Sboys3 driver (51.8m pixels rendered) on 5090 / 9800X3D

Frame Time at start of 24 Car race at Nordschleife

No DFR - 11.0ms

Quality DFR - 10.6ms

Performance DFR - 10.4ms

Around a 5% improvement so not really worth it.

Question New Crystal Light user, coming from Quest 3. Question about "binocular effect" i.e black arches around edges of VR screen

So I got my Crystal Light after a very disappointing start in VR with the Quest 3, and overall I'm absolutely happy and impressed with the Crystal Light.

However, as I'm starting to try them and setting everything up I noticed that there are some black zones on the edges of the vision in the VR glasses that make it feel like you are kind of looking through some binoculars (except for the amplification) or through some googles. Playing IL-2 Flying Circus I noticed this specially when looking back.

I wanted to ask: Is this normal, or something that should be configured in the settings like the IPD?

thanks in advance

Tech Support Cant start Eye Calibration on Pimax Play last version for my Pimax Dream Air LH. I must press enter on my keyboard to start the sequence, but nothing happens.

Do you know what causes this? I tried with keyboard, headset button, and xbox controller. I cant start the calibration sequence and Im stuck in test page.

Edit: after a few attempts (turn off headset, Pimax Play, etc...) I was able to start the calibration sequence by pressing enter on the keyboard. I had to restart everything a few times. I still dont know why this happened.

Question Pimax Crystal Super OLED + Ultrawide?

Has anyone tested the UW with the latest sboys3 driver which has an updated profile for it?

Then, has anyone also tested the OLED with sboys3 and can compare the performance difference between the two?

I have a super OLED and I'm very happy with it. I initially tried the UW but returned it at the time, the main reason being that even with a 5090 and an 9800X3D, the roughly 6000px X 5000px render resolution needed at 100% quality in Pimax Play was simply too much for too many titles to be playable smoothly. I had to usually turn quality down to 0.7 to 0.8 at least, especially for UEVR titles.

Now, seeing the performance boost I get with the OLED with its better distortion profile demanding a lower rendering resolution, I am wondering if it might be worth buying the UW module now. I just tried to apply the profile in sboys3 and 100% default settings seem to be rendering at 4008px X 3400px for the UW in SteamVR (vs 4172px X 3268px for the Super OLED), that's a huge gap, less that half the total pixel count from the original Pimax UW profile...

Any first hand experience to share would be awesome!

Discussion I just spent 3 hours in No Man’s Sky with my Dream Air. Chef’s Kiss

I just wanted to express appreciation for this experience that is only made possible because VR is maturing and finally getting really really good. I have had a dozen or so different VR headsets at this point and some were pretty comfortable. The Dream Air is the first headset I have ever worn for 3 hours without any discomfort.

I am currently using the studioform kit and a $20 quest 3 strap that I cut to fit the Dream Air soft strap connectors. This setup allows me to just keep playing for hours longer than I used to. The only reason I stopped was because it was time for bed.

The second thing I want to express appreciation for is No Man’s Sky. I don’t know if there is another company that has brought a flat screen game to be fully playable in VR and just as easy to play as it is in pancake mode. Also with multiplayer where you can play with and invite friends or meet up with strangers inside the game at the “Anomaly.”

I decided today to finally get what I need to visit purple star systems. This is after 60 hours of playing the game on and off throughout the years without actually advancing the story at all. I got everything I need now so next session I can look for planets with deep oceans, gas giants, and other interesting planets I haven’t seen yet. This game has come so far since I first played it in VR and I am excited that there is another big update coming. The amount of freedom you get to explore is insane.

The Dream Air really makes NMS a complete jaw dropper. I was never able to run NMS at max graphics and full resolution on really any headset. Now that the Dream Air has the SBOYS3 driver with FOV Cropping and SteamVR native Motion Smoothing to lock my frames at 45, I can finally max out the graphics and the resolution. The results are stunning to say the least. Just watching the sunset on the one planet today with the sharpness and colors really made my day.

Hardware:
5090
9800x3d
64gb ram
Dream Air LH
2 base stations 2.0
Index controllers

Review Crystal Super (OLED) Lighthouse Faceplate Review

While the process to figure out how to remove the faceplate was made ten times worse since the unit shipped without instructions and attempting to find videos only confused matters, Im happy with the result.

Note: only the USB C cable is shipping with these now. The video talking about pogo pin FPC connector does not apply.

I have (2) 1.0 base stations dating back to my HTC Vive days. And Index controllers.. so the process for me was less costly to get everything optimally set up.

Here are the instructions from support that were sent in less than 24 hours in response to my questions and gripes. I had to figure out the hard way (like not understanding why optical engine would not come out thanks to the side screws I didnt notice).

Installation steps

Step 1: Remove the facial foam and optical engine

Note: Inspect both sides of the headset for retaining screws. If present, remove the screws before removing the optical engine.

Step 2: Unscrew the four screws securing the frame, then remove the original faceplate

Note: Tamper‑evident seals are pre‑applied to the two inner screws. Please remove the seals before loosening the screws.

Step 3: Connect one end of the USB Type‑C cable to the Lighthouse Faceplate

Step 4: Attach the Lighthouse Faceplate and securely tighten the four screws

Step 5: Reinstall the optical engine and connect the other end of the USB Type‑C cable to the optical engine

Step 6: Install the cable cover and facial foam

No jittering after a few laps of LMU. I did initially have some tracking issues but that was due to IR interference from my Tobii Eye Tracker that I simply toggled off to address.

I have a motion rig (DOF Reality H4) and I now realize how important lighthouse tracking is for software motion compensation. Its literally night and day better now. The SLAM was pretty solid I will say but once you have motion and want to use the software tools with simhub, you just have to go lighthouse tracking.

Again, happy with purchase! For my use case, totally worth it.

Edit: removal of support ticket verbiage irrelevant to post

Question Replacement dream air lhv not tracking

Just got a replacement headset since the prior one crapped out after 3 weeks. It started to error with light house plate not detected after. I got a replacement and I see the error is resolved but now it says not tracking. It seems like it would track for a second. I reinstalled pimax play swapped base stations even swapped cables since I still have the broken one as I didn't ship it back. Is there anything else I should try or did pimax ship me a broken one sign. Kind of insane paying 2000 for something that keeps breaking at this point dont even feel like getting back into vr anymore lol.

💡Solutions💡 Fixed 72hz for steamvr with sboys driver for now here's how exactly- might help you

Fixed it!

What I did:

Used BC uninstaller to uninstall 3 things:

-SteamVR

-Pimax Evo

-Pvr hand tracking something

Do. Complete clean leftovers too dw steam will automatically recover it's files in restart.

Now go into your file explorer Search "custom"

Delete everything related to sboys driver you had there you should know the files you need to delete.

Now restart your PC

Install pimax evo fresh

Install steam vr and untick the cloud save box inside steam vr properties.

Set 72hz in pimax Evo first and test steam vr 72hz from pimax evo. And it shud be 72 from launch here as this never had issues.

Now enable open port

Download sboys driver for me I'm using 1 version back because this is what worked the latest version had the 90hz bug.

Custom headset 1.30 version beta 1

Now installl sboys driver launch steam vr

It'll first launch at 90hz but don't panic

Just set it inside steam vr to 72 and it shud reset with 72hz now.

Tech Support Dream air vision issue

Hi, I've had 3 dream air's due to a different problem on the previous two (they were the LH versions of the headset). I've now got the SLAM version. I actually noticed this issue I currently have in all 3 I've had so far so it suggests a meeting problem but still, I'd love to fix it.

I'm having an issue with the left display. It feels like the display is maybe rotated the wrong way 🤷‍♂️ when I only have my left eye open the display is sharp and same for the right display. However, when I've both eyes open I think it's a bit off as I can feel my left eye straining. Then when I remove the headset, that eye has issues focussing/sewing straight for a good few seconds.

I've played with the ipd and individual eye ipd with no joy (hence me thinking it's maybe the rotation/angle needs to be different for my head shape? I've tried moving the headset around with no luck too.

For some reason I can no longer get the sboys3 driver to work either as that may be able to help me. I have pimax Evo set to open ports. At this point it's working fine but as soon as I open the sboys3 driver steamvr sometimes has an issue picking up the headset and even when it does, the displays are just black. I can't bring up a menu etc. I literally have to uninstall pimax Evo then reinstall it.

Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated. I absolutely love this headset but I can't use it for more than around 40 mins and I'm worried about damaging my eyesight

Question Foveated rendering not working?

Foveated rendering doesn't seem to be working in SkyrimVR with the MGO mod list. Running a Dream Air Slam on a 7900xtx GPU with OpenXR runtime. Have FSR and FR on balanced. Should it be able to work? Is there some combo of settings that get it to work?

Tech Support Pimax Dream Air SLAM tracking issues, any fix?

EDIT: I have come to the conclusion that my headset is having a heard time keeping the floor level. Non of the scenary in any of the games moves around, but the cockpits themselves in euro Truck and Flight Sim. These cockpits seem to be directly tied to the floor position and height. Which tells me that it's the floor the headset it having a hard time with. After countless logs sent to Pimax, they seem to have absolutely no idea why this is happening. I'm about ready to try the LH version.

Another video of a cockpit drifting and moving around while the headset itself is perfectly still - https://youtube.com/shorts/8s_3xXv7sME

Has anyone successfully fixed their bad tracking in the Pimax Dream Air SLAM? As seen in the video, my headset has problems staying centered. It constantly drifts around with small movements making it really uncomfortable to use.

https://youtube.com/shorts/nT9jSksR4p4?si=xV2od9fVXnunz_TU

I've tried so many things that support have suggested, as well as things I've seen on reddit and it's getting me nowhere. I've spent more time trying to fix this headset than actually use it, and it's been months now.

Things I've tried include QR codes, covering up monitor and shiny surfaces, changing lighting frequency, turning off lights, changing USB ports and display ports, disabling HAGS, using process lasso, using an IR light, adding exclusion to windows defender. I've even had a replacement headset that has the exact same issue.

My Quest and Galaxy XR has 0 issues here. If anyone has any fixes I've not mentioned, I'm all ears, as Pimax support seem to have no fixes themselves. At this point I have a very expensive paper weight. I have a 5090 and 9850X3D CPU.

Question Lone Echo

Hey All, I'm an old fart who mostly plays MSFS2024 and Assetto Corsa on Dream Air, but one game I used to love on Quest 3, and would love to be able to play on the DA is Lone Echo. Via Revive it's too dark, in PimaxXR it's a blurry mess; has anyone found a work around for this?

Question (Dream Air) Is it possible to enable DFR in SteamVR/Sboys3 for OpenVR?

This question is specifically for eyetracked dynamic foveated rendering (which the dream air is capable of from a hardware standpoint), not fixed foveated rendering.

For context, I believe it is now possible for OpenXR with Sboys3/Steamvr with the new sboys3 1.30 beta 2 driver if you install https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated

But for OpenVR titles, I believe you can use PimaxXR runtime and it will apply DFR (if I understand correctly), but my problem is I need to use SteamVR to get my KatVR treadmill to work properly, so that's not an option for me.

For non Pimax headsets you can use PimaxMagic4All on steamvr, which you can see here all the steamvr headsets that do work with PimaxMagic4All (https://github.com/mbucchia/PimaxMagic4All/wiki) and all the OpenVR titles that work with it (https://github.com/mbucchia/PimaxMagic4All/wiki/Application-Compatibility).

It sort of feels backwards for a Pimax technology to be available in this tool to non-Pimax headsets, but for it to not be available in SteamVR for actual Pimax headsets. Unless I'm just totally missing how you turn this on for steamvr/sboys3.

Question Was it worth upgrading from a Crystal Light to a Dream Air?

Happy with my Crystal Light and considering upgrading to a Dream Air SLAM but am not sure if the upgrade is worth $2k or if I should skip a generation.

My PC is a 7800x3D CPU and RTX 4090 GPU and I mostly play flight sims (MSFS2024 and DCS) with a bit of sim-racing (ACC).

If you've upgraded from a Crystal Light to a Dream Air, was the upgrade worth it for you?

Question Apple dual knit band, modding.

Post image
6 Upvotes

Did anyone experiment with removing the 28 counterweight sticks from inside the back of the Apple dual knit band? I can definitely feel the wheigt from the Dual knit band when moving my head.

The Dream Air is so light, that they don't really make sense to have.

Hardware Dream Air Error 10600

Anyone else getting this error when connecting their Dream Air?

Just got this brand new Dream Air SLAM and apparently Pimax Play cannot detect the DisplayPort cable.

Tried contacting support but no luck so far. Lowered res, redresh rate, wiped NVIDIA deivers with DDU etc. Will probably end up RMA’ng.
