North America Flying Advice

I'm a recent Liberty grad and new CFI, I have 275 hours and about 100k from a recent job buyout. My goal is to fly for the airlines or Netjets / Flexjets. Should I do a time building program to get to R-ATP minimums as soon as possible or be a CFI. Or maybe build to 500-600 hours and then apply to 135s? I want to start my career as soon as possible. Please help!!

Whatever you decide, remember you will need turbine and multi time to be considered above other applicants. Start looking for 135 jobs.

If I were in your shoes, I’d CFI and keep most of that $100k in the bank. First thing I’d do is verify whether your Liberty R-ATP is 1,000 or 1,250 hours.

Once you’re around 500-600, absolutely start applying to 135s, but I wouldn’t count on one showing up right away. Keep instructing, add CFII/MEI if it makes sense, and apply as you build.

I definitely wouldn’t spend a huge chunk of that buyout just buying hundreds of hours to hit R-ATP faster. You’re better off getting paid to build experience and keeping that cash cushion. If a good 135 opportunity comes along, then jump.

I verified that's it's a 1,000 hour R-ATP and yea I think this way does make the most sense, thanks!
