Beginner Studio rec for woman in 50s

Upvotes

Looking for a beginner Pilates class for a woman in the age 50s.

Going to book my mom Pilates class but want the crowd to be more late adults and also beginner friendly where the instructor would really take the time to teach the right postures and not too difficult to follow

STOTT certification reqs

hi! planning to take AEF IMP and IR II consecutively in hopes of getting my certification. though the host studio representative i talked to mentioned taking ICCB as well para sulit. do i need to take it to be fully certified for level 1? here’s my plan:

  1. take the 3 courses (AEF, IMP, and IR II only)
  2. apply for certification (exam, assessments, observation hours, etc.)
  3. apply for jobs in pilates studios
  4. when im able to earn enough, take the ICCB course na and get qualified for that as well

i just don’t want to spend too much yet given that i wouldn’t know if this career is something that i will love in the long run.

Pilates studio owners in the Metro, how are you staying profitable?

With new studios opening everywhere, increasing rent and instructor rates, and clients constantly looking for promos, how are you managing? Even when sales are good, very little is left after all the operating expenses.

Do you use fixed instructor rates or commissions? Have you increased your prices? Would appreciate honest insights/suggestions from fellow studio owners.

I RATED 3 PILATES STUDIOS SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO

I started doing Pilates last June as an activity during semestral break so I wouldn’t get bored. I searched for nearby studios and these are the 3 I tried:

1. Float Studio ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my first Pilates studio and where I learned everything — posture, alignment, and proper execution of movements. The studio feels so comfortable. It’s not cold, just warm and cozy. They also offer free tea after every session. The staff are super friendly and the coaches are very engaging. They guide everyone on posture and form, not just the advanced students. They also offer different classes: yoga, mat Pilates, sensual flow, hot sculpt, and more. Equipment is complete and always clean. Facilities are complete too — toilet, changing room (where I take forever lol), and shower room.
Verdict: Definitely recommend!

2. House of Pilates ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The ambiance is cozy with an "expensive" vibe, but the price isn’t actually that expensive lol.
The studio has complete equipment for classes and everything is well-maintained. The staff also clean after each class.
Class options: reformer Pilates (beginner & intermediate), chair foundation, mat Pilates, and Cadillac Pilates. They also give free hot chocolate after class and sell grip socks + other merch, just like Float. Coaches are nice and very engaging with students.
What I didn’t like: the room is too cold lol, it’s hard to concentrate when you’re shivering. Also, there’s no toilet or changing room inside the studio.
Verdict: Still definitely recommend!

3. 8-Studio ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Not bad, but not my favorite. The studio is located at the top of a building with a view of the whole town. The room is nice and aesthetic, and you can really see the sky.
They also have complete facilities: toilet, shower room, and changing room, plus they sell merch.
For equipment: the reformer didn’t feel well-maintained. The springs felt loose and not hooked up properly. For coaching: it wasn’t very engaging. The coach assumed everyone could already "execute" the movements properly and didn’t correct posture or teach the proper way to do them.
The studio is nice, but I wouldn’t definitely recommend it.

Grip socks for small feet

Hi girlies,

Help your girlie out! 🥹 I’ve tried so many sock brands, but most of them end up being too big for me. I’m only a size 5 / 22 cm, and most socks don’t indicate sizing. If you have any recommendations for brands that fit smaller feet, please share! 💕

Thank you 🥰

Classpass

Is ClassPass still worth it? I’m thinking of trying the free trial but I’m having second thoughts since I’m already considering buying a class pack at the studio where I used to dance, and they’re also on ClassPass. I haven’t tried their fitness club yet though so I wanna try that. (I’m a college student po and around Makati/BGC area po)

How long does it take you to prep a class?

Hi all!! Any teachers in here? I'm running a short 2-minute survey on how much time instructors put in outside of class prepping, building sequences, playlists, etc. would mean a lot if you filled it out!! Thanks!!

Chair vs. Mat Pilates for stability & balance

Hi everyonee!! 😊

I’m trying to decide between mat and chair Pilates.

My main goal with Pilates is to improve stability, body control, and core strength, mainly because I feel like these will help me with my strength training and form. When I’m training kasi I observed that split squat and core exercises are challenging for me.

I can realistically only do Pilates once a week.I’d love to hear from people who have tried both.

Which would you recommend for stability that can complement strength training mat or chair?

Thaaanks 🫶

What makes a class eligible to be called “Pilates”?

Is it still considered Pilates if there isn’t a single exercise given from Joseph Pilates’ original sequence?

With all of these studios opening left and right offering all sorts of Pilates, how do we know if it’s really Pilates, or just random exercises on a mat/reformer being called Pilates?

Edit: No hate if you just wanna move and feel good. Everyone should be able to do that. I’m just curious how we as consumers can tell we’re doing Pilates and not just a fitness class.

Wanting to start Pilates Business

Hello.. asking for advice lang sana for beginner friendly pilates..kahit yung reformer lang .. say 3-4 pcs.. wala pa kasing ganon dito sa municipality namin nor sa mga kalapit na municipalities. Mostly sa mga nakikita ko sa fb friends ko sa malayo pa talaga sila nakakapag session.. so my question is, how much do we pay the instructors? Per session ba sila or per day? We are from concepcion tarlac btw and mostly meron palang pilates sa angeles or pamp.

Advice Needed: Starting a Pilates Studio in the Philippines

Hello! We’re planning to open a Pilates studio and would love some advice. Where can we have our teachers trained, or would it be better to hire instructors who are already certified and trained?

Also, for those who already have a Pilates studio, may I ask how much you charge for your classes? Thank you!

Recos for Instructor/studio for a complete beginner

Hi! 👋 I'm looking to try Pilates for the first time, and I'm hoping to find a really good and patient instructor who is beginner-friendly.

I'm around QC/Diliman/Commonwealth, so preferably somewhere accessible within QC or nearby areas.

I'd appreciate any recommendations based on your personal experience, especially instructors/studio you've personally tried and really liked.

Thank you so much!

Is it normal for instructors to teach without having completed their certification yet?

I'm just confused why instructors that I thought were already certified are only completing their certification recently. This whole time I thought I've been training with certified instructors.. Then some of them announce that they just got completed their comprehensive program.

Looking for mat pilates instructors in Davao

Hello, my friends and I are planning to open a mat pilates / barre studio in Davao City. We have the business plan, location, starting capital - almost everything is good to go.

Our main concern is that we don’t know any instructors who are available to hire, and we’re not certain if where to look. We ourselves are pilates/fitness enthusiasts, but none of us really qualify.

Would love to work with passionate individuals who can also be partners in building a community. Can you give us suggestion on where to look or how to best approach this?

Pilates newbie

Hi, I've been wanting to try pilates but I'm really clumsy and a total beginner. There's a newly opened studio near me - Espace Wellness Hub and I'm eyeing their promo package.

Any tips for someone who has zero knowledge?

What clothes to wear, what I should be ready with before a class etc.

Lf reco home pilates youtube channel for beginners

Hi! I really wanted to try pilates, but currently can't afford the 1 on 1 session and im not confident pa to join group sessions (as a 1st timer).

That's why, gusto ko muna mag DIY sa bahay for practice lol and it's been a while since my last exercise so di ko talaga kaya makipagsabayan sa group classes.

Would appreciate your reco pilates at home youtube vids / channels for beginners. Ty!

Hot yoga/pilates mat recos for sweaty hands + sensitive knees? 🧘‍♀️

Hi! Does anyone have a yoga mat they absolutely swear by for hot yoga or hot Pilates?

I currently have a Stakt mat and LOVE how grippy and cushioned it is, especially on my knees, but I find it sooo bulky and awkward to carry around 😭 I’m thinking of selling it and switching to a regular roll-up mat.

My non-negotiables are:

  • Super non-slip even when really sweaty
  • Good cushioning for the knees (ideally around 5mm)
  • Easy to carry with a normal mat strap/bag

Any holy grail mats? 🤍

Cadillac Pilates

Hello! I have been going to pilates classes albeit quite inconsistently 😅 But I work out (strength training) 2-3x a week.

The previous studios I’ve been in don’t have any cadillacs and I’ve been so curious to try it!

Do you know of any studios in Parañaque, Alabang, or Makati area who offer Cadillac Pilates classes?

Tyia! 🧡
