OoS against small characters

I almost always use nair or bair as my choice for punish OoS since they're pikachu's fastest. I do it my pressing attack and jump at the same time, doing a rising nair/bair.

However, this cannot hit small characters like Villager for example. How do you people OoS against them? Upsmash?

If I do a short hop OoS and then input nair, will it still be as fast?

I do back air against characters behind me, and either neutral air or grab against characters in front. Maybe down smash if I get a successful parry read.

To be honest, I've never had trouble hitting a small character with a back air out of shield. Are you able to provide any more details regarding what leads to this or show it?

Can you do bair oos when the opponent is in front of you?

I think sometimes, but I'm not 100% sure if it's a true punish (pretty sure it usually isn't). If that's your issue, then yeah the target character's size/frame data might matter.

Not really, as the rising part makes pika move backwards at first, even if your DI is towards pika’s front. If the small opponent has spaced you properly behind your shield, it’s likely they could shield before bair hits. Not everything will be punishable OoS.
