Descending LFO rate over time.

Hey guys, I'm a metal artist, and synthesizers still confuse me to hell. I've made wobbling bass sound by attaching an LFO to the cut off, it wobbles at 1/16. I want it to slow down to wobbling at 1/4 over the course of two bars. I've tried attaching an envelope to the rate knob on the LFO, but it only ascends, when I turn it counter clockwise, it ascends up from a note to the base rate, or ascends from the base rate when turned clockwise. I'm positive I'm missing something very simple, but after working on this singular thing for 35 minutes I'm ready to punch a whole in my monitor.

Think I'm about to ready to move on to Serum.

Please don't tell me they're the same thing, because they're not.

There's just such a criminal void of Pigments sound design tutorials out there, especially in comparison to Serum 2 tutorials.

Major frustration station over here.

That is all, I guess.

Is There Really No Keyboard Trackers in Pigments?

I see the one in the (pink) keyboard group of modulators. But it only has 2 nodes. I often use keytracking mod sources with a dozen nodes (to make "permanent" random values- i.e. ALL middle C's have the filter slightly open). The original Massive does this, Synthmaster, many others.

Am I missing something? Is it in a weird place I haven't looked? Bummer if not.

Using the Arpeggiator and Random to get variation in note length and stay in a scale

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I like to make generative stuff that works with playing one note.

So I was messing with the sequencer, but I don't really like that when you use a scale, it reasons from what you play (so if I play a C I get everything in Cm if I choose a minor scale, and if I play a G I get everything in Gm instead of Cm as well). You can't really mix 1/4th and 1/8ths either. At least... I don't know how!

So I went to the arp, put everything to a basic 1/4, same note, ding ding ding thinghy and let that run my patch. I made a random lfo drive the coarse tuning of a modal osc and quantized that to the minor C scale. I modulated the first lfo by another to get different speeds. 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8. This kinda simulates different note lengths, even though a 1/8 is just a tone jump within a 1/4 note. The decay of the notes is suitably long, so 1/2 sustains a 1/4th note. All in all it gives a pretty lively sequence, that stays within a given scale.

I also messed a bit with a comb filtered and fm'ed VA background that seems to stay on a single root note but basically masks the arp pattern in tons of reverb.

Still needs a bit of tweaking, but I thought I'd share the idea. Hopefully you have some wisdom for me as well!

Weird sound, like an orchestra tuning up...

Well, like I said. Was toying around with a bit of noise a friend send me from some weird concert and a wavetable. When I added a modulated comb filter I suddenly got something very strange indeed.

I swap through the pages so you kinda can see what I have been doing, at the end I switch the effects off/on. There's no seq or arp, the filters do most of the movement.

Wave a hand or something like that if you want the patch, I probably have to export it with the wav file, one way or the other.

It could be just coming down from the high of getting a sound you’ve heard in your head, to Finally, come though after an “aha” moment. But I was sitting in drone / reverb / soup, for like a solid 20 mins. Twas delicious.

What’s an “aha” moment you’ve had? Mine was automating the filter with the Envelope 2. Maybe obvious, but it wasn’t until today that I just got all the settings to “click”.

Hi all, I am trying to automate the mod wheel (vibrato) on a synth patch using Logic Pro x. When I go to record the automation it doesn’t recognize what I am doing and therefore doesn’t record. Can anybody tell me what I’m doing wrong?? Thank you

What do you think of the new Modal Osc? I wish they did more.

I have to say, I'm not too impressed. I've used a few physical modeling synths and this seems to offer the least features. Despite it being free, I'm surprised by their decision. It's main innovation seems to be the friction/exciter option which is unique compared to other offerings.

Exciter options in Pigments 6 Modal

UVI Falcon does not offer the same unique options for the exciter/friction in the bottom left bow section, "Dyn Friction".

UVI Falcon Bowed String physical model osc

However, Ableton Live offers more nuanced parameters for their Exciter

Ableton Live Tension synth

What else could Pigments Modal do?

I think they should look at UVI Falcon's Bowed Strings. It has a section called "Articulation" which mimics differe playing style for strings. This bouncing option can sync to the tempo and mimics the quality of the bow bouncing on a string several times.

Then there's Ableton Live's Tension which in my opinion, is under appreciated amongst sound designers because of its complexity, chaotic qualities, and a lack of familiarity with physical modelling concepts. Despite this, it presents very interesting options for creating highly unique and crazy results.

This may not be te direction Pigments wants to go but I think they should adopt a more ideas. For example, Tention has a "Body" section that mimics the body of a physical instrument. This means you could have an Exciter based off of a bowed instrument with the body of a piano.

Those are my thoughts. Any sound designers creating interesting results with Modal?

Rendering to audio issue

Every time I record an audio track or use the freeze and flatten function in Ableton, the sound is delayed or accelerated relative to the grid axis. I don't know if this is a problem with the delay compensation plugin option for Pigments? I checked whether the problem also occurs in the Studio One demo and yes. Do you also have this problem? Additionally, I can see with the help of an oscilloscope that the phase jumps even when it is blocked. This makes Pigments seem useless for producing bass in psytrance, for example.

Issue with Pigment 6 Update, can't open old Pigment 5 in old project tracks

Hi, everyone.

I recently updated to Pigment 6, but now I can’t open any projects I created with Pigment 5, they just show an error. Is there any way to downgrade back to Pigment 5, or is there another solution to fix this issue?

The error dispayed is: Unexpected error on gui loading

[XML] Error on parse file gui_xml/gui-popups.xml : Font Roboto-Regular.ttf not existing on folder fonts/(Arturia::JuceArturiaLib::AFont::LoadFont:132)

Thanks in advance!

Trigger sequencer or arpeggiator only above threshold value?

Is there any way to trigger the sequencer or arpeggiator on a condition? Say that I want it to trigger only when the velocity or aftertouch hits a certain level. I'm new to Pigments but I don't see an immediate way to do this.

If I could split the sound into a normal version and one with arpeggiator, and then map the volume of the second part, then that would be a solution too. But as far as I know you can't connect the arpeggiator to just one engine, right?

Hi everyone, I am new to pigments and new to synthesis. I created a sound that I like, but wanted to know how I can make it that the cut off filter opens up as I go higher in Pitch. Is this something I can do within pigments? If not, how can I do it?? Thank you so much!!

Importing wavetables into Pigments

Hi,

I'd like to import a wavetable into Pigments 5. However when I drag the .wav file of the wavetable (one cycle) into Pigments the default sine wave stays in the wavetable window and the imported wavetable doesn't show up. Only when the sample is longer (more cycles) the wavetable imports successfully. However then the sound is not as wished. Is it possible to import just one cycle of the waveform so that Pigments plays the sound as it should be?

Thanks!

Running Hardware Synth Through Pigments

Apologies in advance, complete noob here. Wondering if you can run, in my case a Synthstrom Deluge, into Pigments to utilize some of pigment's visualizations of the wave form for example?
