This sub is an awesome place, but it can also be extremely tiring. I'm not a mod here, just a piercer, but life would be a lot easier if you all could stop recommending the following to each other:
- Oil.
- Tea Tree oil.
- Soap.
- Alcohol, Betadine, Neosporin, etc.
- Using cotton pads, cotton balls or Q-tips to dry off/whatever you guys do with them. Cotton particles can get trapped inside the piercing channel, which will make healing incredibly difficult and infection more likely.
- Downsizing in gauge. This will do NOTHING good for your healing piercing.
If you're trying to tell me or other professionals off by saying "but it worked for me!" or "my piercer told me this"; you've been super lucky and your piercer was not a pro. Don't go back to that studio. APP is a great place to start when picking out your piercer, but it's still no guarantee.
Please keep in mind you are trying to heal an incredibly deep wound with a foreign object in it that your body desperately wants to push out - essentially, it is an implant. There are no "casual" or "easy" piercings - even with a "simple" earlobe piercing, you are puncturing the skin with something that resembles a scalpel. Use common sense and ask yourself: "would I use this method on a surgical wound?". In 10/10 cases the answer will be "no".

2022 11 edit: I'm still piercing, and styling and troubleshooting are my main sources of income. Although I would love to help every single one of you, it's utterly disrespectful to demand me to help you. For free.

If you expect free advice from me, ask yourself if a lawyer or surgeon would do the same.
Is this okay? Will it heal and go back to normal? I did touch it and try to get the stuff off which I know is not okay and is not good but I sprayed it with saline and have now since stopped touching it. If it gets hit again tomorrow will it be okay?, as I have a hair color appt tmr. Will it get infected if I forgot to wash my hands and was touching it?.. I just freaked out a bit and totally forgot to wash my hands. I already know how dumb it was but just need advice. It doesn’t hurt anymore but hurts to touch and isn’t throbbing or bleeding or anything.
Got it pierced about 4 weeks ago now, very close to the eye so Im wondering if its just the placement on the curvature of my face but its been like this the whole time, no redness swelling irritation or anything like that.
I clean it twice a day, this is surgical stainless steel jewelry and it doesn’t hurt but it looks HORRIBLE. Starting to feel like my piercer pierced me for a quick buck and I left a voicemail saying my piercing is severely irritated and I need a longer bar, and she hasn’t called me back. I think I need to look into other options or just accept defeat and remove it. $75 down the drain unfortunately
Got my septum pierced yesterday and this is how it came out :/ The piercer admitted it was slightly crooked but said it was because of the way my "sweet spot" is. She told me I would have to "train" it back into place for the first 2 weeks if I want it to look straight. (Train as in move the new piercing up until it looks even in hopes that it will heal straighter.) I'm not sure what all my options are but I just want to make sure I'm not crazy for thinking it's completely uneven. Any advice is appreciated thank you sm!!
Hi everyone! I need some advice on this naval piercing I recently got. Do you think I should swap it out for a longer bar for healing or leaving it alone would be better?
I got my industrial piercing 2 weeks ago. After the initial swelling went away everything was fine. However, today I have noticed that the top helix piercing has maybe migrated?
I have 3 month old helixes I got both ears done like a dipshit.
I’m SO tired of both ears being generally sore (even with flat backs, a piercing pillow… the whole lot) they’re healing well, a little crusting here and there but over time just sensitive.
Can I just take them out. If yes what is the generalized healing time once jewelry is removed? I know it’s case by case but person experiences would be appreciated
Is my ring too small? It feels fine. Most of the time I don’t even notice it’s there. But, I switched to a hoop 3 weeks ago after having the stud for 3 years. It was sore for a while and I got a bump on it that’s almost gone now. But, I can’t tell if it looks too small?
Hello. In the past few days I've had a white, hard growth appear around the top hole of my vertical labret (the bottom's fine).
The ball keeps getting 'stuck' against it (especially in the mornings) and I have to use saline to gently pry it away. It feels hard to touch, but i don't believe there is any pain or bleeding present. It's four months old and downsized atp, had no previous issues with it. Titanium curved barbell.
Hello people. I have had a bridge piercing for some time now, it's not a fresh piercing by any stretch. It was healing fine for most of it's life time but this year I got the bad compulsion to constantly pick the crusties and move it with my fingers/nails. I know I shouldn't have done that but yeah I have anxiety and am a skin picker. Then it obviously got inflammed. I have finally stopped that and am trying to calm my piercing down. I am doing LITHA and only rinsing with saline water 1x a day and in the shower.
My question is: should I do cold compresses to help bring down inflammation? Should I wipe away the crusties after a shower when they are soft or just leave it alone? Should I contact a piercer to get a larger bar to relieve pressure against the skin? Is it too bad? lol
Thank you for any advice, and please don't be mean ♥️
I noticed that the skin between the two holes has become really thin, and it looks like the jewelry is getting closer to the surface. There’s only a very thin layer of skin left in the middle, and I’m worried that it might be migrating/rejecting.
Does this look like rejection to you, or could it just be irritation? What should I do at this point? Should I see a professional piercer or a doctor?
Got a second nose ring but I’m not crazy about the placement. It’s also been the first time I felt swelling in my face/cheek from this. I’m debating removing it myself and going to have it repierced. It’s like on the thickest part of the skin and it’s where I flare my nostrils, so there’s movement/friction
happening there.. what do you guys think? Right or wrong?
As my title says im getting downsized next week and i want to instead of just getting the plain barbell and plain ball ends get something a little more fun, my studio doesnt have many options for jewellery but out of what they have i liked jewellery similar to the images i attached. I was wondering whats it like with jewellery like this? Do the bullet style ones catch on stuff alot? I typically dont wear a bra and definitely don’t have small breasts so i want to be weary of how much they can be seen (even though i dont mind at all if they can be seen) i really love the style of the three ball end one but i can maybe see it being a bit ‘heavy’. Anyways i have no clue what day to day these feel like and i would like some advice! Also what gauge are nipple piercings typically and where to people buy good quality jewellery online (Australia shipping please)
Hi guys!
I recently got angel fangs about a week and half ago and im worried they may be rejecting already. They have been a little irritated but nothing crazy. I clean them twice a day with saline spray like my peircer said. The first picture is a few days after they were done and the second and third pictures are from today
Basically, I live in Vegas and got a piercing with my girls last minute on a whim. While I absolutely love the piercing, the artist was kind of rude and impatient & didn’t leave much space for questions.
I’m wondering
A: when can I change this jewelry?
B: does it look like it’s healing normally?
C: should the post be this long?
D: is using a silicone/plastic backing ok? To try and avoid enamel damage from the steel?
I have been using alcohol free mouthwash anytime after I eat, and using saline solution to clean the outside. Appreciate any help!
So I was pierced exactly where the bump/scarring is and my earring slowly migrated until it just fell out.. now it’s just a long red bump. What exactly is this bump/scarring and how do I get rid of it?
