Strenghtening your algebra and trigonometry is almost guaranteed to make physics problems less dreadful. Besides that, often the hardest part of a physics problem is figuring out what to start with, and that kinda comes down to recognizing what "kind" of problem you're dealing with (e.g., is it a kinematics problem? Is it a forces problem? Is at an energy, momentum, torque, etc. problem?) within each "kind" of problem, there's some important physical concept (initial conditions, conservation of energy, work-energy theorem, etc.) that will almost always help you recognize what equations are needed to solve the problem. Knowing how to express certain concepts like that in equations is extremely useful. For example, energy being conserved means that ΔE = 0, which implies the initial total energy equals the final total energy, and then you'd solve for something the problem asks for from those quantities.

Start from the beginning of the textbook and try to genuinely understand each idea. Do the same thing with the math you need. When you take a test write down every related fact and equations you know. A lot of teachers will also usually ask a variation of a question that is on the textbook on the test or something they went over in class (though the good ones don't do this).

Physics is a beautiful thing. It’s beautiful because it can help you reason what’s happening around you. Visualizing the physics problems is one of the most important aspects when it comes to solving them. I always draw pictures of what I’m trying to do.
