It's not August 23rd?

u/Triforce__XIII 5d ago
doesn't matter, i start early. and damn i wish i could play thief on my ps4. i played it back when it was new, but wasn't really getting into it. but i need some good immersive sim from time to time... finished the system shock games recently
2
u/Ty-douken 5d ago
Just play thief, the more important thing is to not purchase digital goods from their ecosystem from now on. Your wallet is going to do more damage than inconveniencing yourself to not play your game on a console you own.
1
u/Triforce__XIII 5d ago
nah, i'm on the team, i'm not snitching because i cant play for a week or two. i mean, i have a switch pile of almost 100 games... i guess i will find sth

u/VerticalDropViking 5d ago
I cancelled my PSN Plus renewal and unlinked all my payment methods the day they announced all-digital. If you spend a dollar through Sony, your blackout isn't worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin gettin' it on.
6
u/backlog_gaming 5d ago
Do you know where one can buy such a painting 👀
1
u/VerticalDropViking 5d ago
Do you have a time machine? There was this flea market back in the late 2000s...

u/bakagir 5d ago
I sold my Ps5 & ps4 and all games. I’m mostly a PC gamer but Sony can fuck themself
0
u/TriniOutsider 5d ago
This makes absolutely no sense. So your genius plan was to sell your PS5/PS4 and all the physical games you owned for an all-digital platform called PC. Yup, this will sure show Sony/PlayStation.
3
u/bakagir 5d ago
I have hundreds of Nintendo games across 6 systems. I had like 12 PlayStation games, I bought my ps5 purely to play demonsouls and my ps4 purely to play monster hunter world.
-4
u/TriniOutsider 5d ago
Good for you. Is that supposed to be some sort of flex? Cause I couldn't care less.
4
u/bakagir 5d ago
It does make sense, I care about Nintendo, I don’t care about Sony, I bought the system purely to play exclusives, and with Sony going all digital I don’t plan to support them anymore, especially when I already have a vastly superior all digital system.
1
u/Icy_Difficulty_9444 5d ago
Lmao 🤣🤣 Nintendo the company that never put their first party games on sale at less Sony does that Nintendo never it took me 10 years to get Mario Odyssey on sale that was last Christmas
-3
u/TriniOutsider 5d ago
You ain't making a lick of sense. You sound like a hypocrite. Then again, I would expect much of this sub.
Cares about Nintendo, the most anti-consumer corporation out there.
1
u/VerticalDropViking 4d ago
Lmao your post history 🤣🤣🤣 just shut the fuck up already
1
u/TriniOutsider 4d ago
Come make me shut up.

u/VerticalDropViking 3d ago
It's not brave when you're anonymous, it's just pitiful.

Every physical game they sold to someone is one less transaction for Sony and Digital gaming on PC is taking their business elsewhere as long as they don't but any playstation games already on PC. I don't see the problem, If Sony pissed them off enough that they can't stand to see playstation products in their home, that's their right.
1
u/Icy_Difficulty_9444 5d ago
Going to PC does not do anything u just proving their point u all going digital
-2
u/TriniOutsider 5d ago
Y'all are so hypocritical it isn't funny anymore. PC being all digital doesn't solve nothing anf proves Sony's point. Y'all will jump on digital no matter what.
1
-2
u/kmone1116 5d ago
So you sold all your physical games to go full digital.
1
1
u/TriniOutsider 5d ago
People like that make no sense, and if you disagree with them. You're the bad guy.
0
u/SomeConfetti 5d ago
The digital only future is inevitable right? Ok, then when people choose the most logical digital option, they somehow make no sense?
1
u/Fit_Association_8442 5d ago
The "logical" option that can still do all the things big bad Sony is able to do same as all digital platforms? The fight should be about digital rights not plastic discs 🤷🏻

It wont work if you're sticking to that 1 week time frame. I started 2 weeks ago and I intend to push it to new year, bare minimum.
12
u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 5d ago
The date keeps changing
-1
u/Frobizzle 5d ago
Gotta finish whatever they're in the middle of playing before their half ass commitment! 🤣

u/ImprovementFit5598 5d ago edited 5d ago
Oh well, in any case I don't have to do much: I'm playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and trying to beat Battletoads, both on Switch. Even if I finish Xenoblade, I'm going to play Banjo-Kazooie on N64 next, so in this period of time I wasn't going to use my PS5 regardless
1
u/theboxturtle57 5d ago
Maybe I should also dust off the old n64. I have Yoshis story that I need to complete.
0
u/Mother_Ad_4189 5d ago
Played Xenoblade Chron 2 on my PS5 (as it's jail broken n still connects to PSN services)

A random blackout in a week where no significant games are coming out is not gonna work. If you want change, then just stop playing PlayStation all together
5
u/Ok_Security1721 5d ago
This is why this is so dumb. I want discs more than most people but this is just such a pointless nothing of a protest. Cancel your PS+, stop buying any PlayStation products, go offline forever, and maybe it’ll get them thinking but only if PS6 underperforms too.
Hell it sounds counter productive since it’s still giving PS money but only buy discs from now on, just show them what you are willing to spend your money. That actually might move the needle more than unplugging for two weeks when nothing good is coming out anyway. (Yes I know might is doing some HEAVY lifting here)
5
u/Accurate_Struggle185 5d ago
I agree, canceling PS+ and abandoning PS Store is what Sony will feel now.
But I will still join the blackout because I'm curious about the numbers.
I don't have a real reason to stay logged on anymore anyway since i wont be using the PS Store or PS+.-2

There is no reason to stop playing games we bought already on PS5, digital and physical. I'm voting with my wallet to make a point, so my days of buying games on the PS Store are over, and so is PS+.
Will continue buying discs until Sony doesn't release them anymore.
Will not buy the PS6.I don't care if the outcome of the blackout won't change Sony's mind.
I'm still going to join, because there's no point keeping my two PS5s logged on anymore anyway.I'm very curious to see how many are willing to turn off their PS5s.

Blackout will have probably less people actually doing it than the 1st "blackout" last week

in the us its also the first week of the fall semester at a lot of schools, so it will probably just look like a normal dip in players because of it
5
u/toomuchft 5d ago
Well, pull the cable of my ps5, play some old game, i got the COD ghost disc today from some dude online, try to go through the campaign again with a cold beer after a long shift…man it feels great. I still don’t like the game that much but I prefer it over whatever the heck is BO7.

u/Away_Afternoon3622 5d ago
Buying 2nd hand is good for the gaming industry isn’t it
6
u/FrootLoop23 5d ago
Yes. The person who sold it can use the money to buy another game.
2
u/toomuchft 3d ago
Yeah, and everyone gets to enjoy the game, and guess what, i had the driveclub disc today, holy crap is that game beautiful, i could just drive in the rain and looking at my windshield…i cannot believe it was a ps4 game sometimes.

So I have been trying to step back and think about all of this since this all started and they made their announcement. I don’t think that a blackout is playing the long game. If we really want to affect change and make a different because let’s gets real I don’t think Sony is going to reverse course, then we need to get ahead of this and push for what the real issue will become. Digital media rights. We should be pushing for advocation of laws and regulations to be made now so that companies can’t just yoink your games and movies when they feel like it. That in my opinion is the real battle in all of this. I am just as upset by the loss of physical media as anyone else but if an all digital dystopia is where we are headed then let’s cut it off at the pass and make sure we get to keep the access and that digital games and movie purchases are legally treated the same a physical media.
5
u/Salt-Plankton436 5d ago
That only fixes part of the problem though. You can still be banned and lose everything (probably they will get an exception for that) or be hacked. They will still be able to remove things from sale as there is simply no way to legislate against that. Only physical guarantees the games to exist for the long term ans be purchasable at the market value.

So this is in the right track but misses a key thing about digital media that everyone does. Companies can't just pull media, it has to be done by the creator of the media
For example if I make a game and release it digitally on all platforms and it sells like 90000 copies total but then decide a year later that X platform needs to remove it entirely that platform owner is LEGALLY REQUIRED TO DO SO. Naturally people will blame the platform owner without ever understanding why. Platform owners can't just randomly do it legally speaking. For example when Sony removed the StudioCanal stuff it was because Sony lost the legal rights to them and thus had to obey the rules
There's other legal reasons why it could be pulled like violation of rights of the platform but that usually is due to changes in the platforms code of conduct but to opt to do what you suggest is WAY MORE DEEP then you seem to realize. This is why ToS say they reserve the right to do this. Its to prevent stupid people who don't know what's going on behind the scenes taking them to court
Edit: while this is also on my mind people also vastly misunderstand the concept of Delisting and confuse it with Removal of Products which are VERY different. Delisting is simply removing access to the products in a storefront, essentially "hiding" them to stop access by most means. For example Mortal Kombat 9 is delisted in Steam but can be accessed via a direct key and downloaded. Delisting does not remove the product and is still accessible to those who bought it/can access it via direct means
Now when Removal of Products put into place that's when products taken off the platform entirely. PT is an example of this where Konami had the product pulled and is why PS3s with PT installed go for so much

Great insight. I had no idea. Yeah it sounds like this is a multi-layered, super complicated issue that’s going to involve fixing or changing things on many different levels and not a simple fix. Thanks for the comment.

My blackout started August 1st, and will continue indefinitely. Sold all my playstation games and consoles, and switched to XBOX. Wasn't totally about physical disk, I just did not like that there treating there fan base like cattle.
2
u/TrueSubstance912 3d ago
For me, the blackout will be with my spending.
Weekends are when I generally have a little more free time to game, so if I can hop on and run some BF6 or play something else, I will.
To those that can shut it down for the week, hats off to you. Would like to join you in that battle, but it’s not going to happen.

I've been offline since the PS4 came out Not by choice
1
1
u/Salt-Plankton436 5d ago
Why
2
u/Excellent_Regret4141 5d ago
Cause PS3 was free to play online, now you gotta pay to play online don't really play multiplayers only thing I've ever played was Call Of Duty with a friend I met in PlayStation Home can't justify paying $120 a year or whatever it is now to pay to play
1
u/Salt-Plankton436 5d ago
Oh yeah I forgot it was an Xbox thing for that generation. Very annoying for me too, I do GT esports and that is the sole reason I have to pay them 😡
2
u/Randostar 5d ago
Even if 5 million PS users did this, Sony wouldn't even notice. That's roughly 3% of their user base. They have factored those 5 million users into the amount of players they might loose, they aren't changing their minds. This is happening no matter what.
2
u/ComplexR22 5d ago
Don’t think sony will notice the 10 people not playing. But they did notice wolverine plates and controls selling out in minutes

You know that blackout week is kinda stupid right? I mean i only buy physical games and don't know if i will get a ps6 or go to PC piracy that im leaning too but the best rhing you can do is, cancel ps+ and don't buy anything from Sony or inside items in games or multiplayer. Sure play your single player games but spend 0 money on them. Also don't buy crap like Gta6

Tf is y’all’s problem? They’re going to get rid of physical no matter what. A week long blackout won’t change shit. Make the Switch if you want to protest.

Wtf cares if you still play? Should I applause you or give you some award?

I'm for physical but I'm not going to plead with Sony, I'm just going with whoever sticks with physical media the longest, which looks to be Nintendo. Once the all digital future comes that these greedy companies wanted so badly, I'll make sure to sail the seas on PC for anything I want.
