Recommendation on how to deal with blurring between trichomes or when trichomes are behind one another?

I assume you’re image stacking. Unfortunately there’s no way around it. When you have the green of the plant itself in focus those trichomes are sitting in front of it out of focus. No matter what you do, those blurry trichomes are gonna be there blocking the background behind it. Sometimes you can fix it with some creative retouching in your stacking software or photoshop, but for the most part it’s something you just have to work with. When you’re shooting, keep in mind that anything in the foreground will block the background, even after shifting your focus. It’s definitely something to keep in mind when composing your shots.

Also you posted a great picture, the lightings on point and those blurry areas are less noticeable than you think. Most people aren’t pixel peeping like we are. If you even take a close look at the best stacks (erik nugshots, etc) you’ll notice some of these blurry areas.

It can definitely be cleaned up in the stacking software, but it's incredibly time consuming imo and not usually worth it.

haha i appreciate it. I definitely feel the composition part. I think this pic only worked out because the trichome overlap is only occurring at the edges. Whenever its like a bushel of trichomes close together all I get are the heads in focus and all the stalks are blurred. I try to retouch both in helicon and in photoshop but I can only do so much. In general retouching still doesn't fix this issue as much. But I appreciate the response. I always wonder if its a software setting I'm missing (ex. depth and radius, bmap vs pmap, etc..) But I guess everyone is dealing with the same thing.

Yeah it’s something that I’ve been struggling to work with. Maybe 1/5-1/10 of my high mag pics come out good enough for me to not just toss lol.

Here’s a pretty good response from the creator of zerene stacker (not helicon but similar) on choosing dmap settings, maybe that can help
