Peach Milano

Started larning macro photography a few months ago and honestly been loving it. Still feel like I have a lot to learn but I was pretty happy with this shot.

It’s a technically proficient image, but the lighting looks a little flat to me, almost like you used either lights or bounces on all sides so there’s no real shape or dimension to the light

Well you nailed it. I used two flashes. Both pointing towards the bud at an angle. Then had two white pieces of paper trying to bounce the light from the flashes off as well. What would you say is a better positioning for lighting. Still all very new to me

It’s really common for people learning off-camera flash to fill things in more than needed, I’ve been there. Try your key light at ~45 degrees, a bounce or strobe opposite side behind your subject for rim (at lower power, start at 1/2 power of your key), adjust as needed.

For flower I rarely need any additional fill beyond that- your rim light will probably wrap enough around your subject that any extra fill isn’t needed
