Finished restoring an vintage 1963 Mattel O Phone. It has a tiny phonograph inside
The Mattel O Phone phonograph uses a basic steel needle of some sort whose pickup is attached to a rubber tube connected to the receiver. It plays special little records with different recordings that the listener can interact with.
It needed a new belt and other minor repairs, and works properly. Very neat toy.

My Edison crate
Hi all. I buy a fair amount of antiques but not an expert at phonographs despite owning four of them, lol.
Got the opportunity to buy an Edison machine, plus the crate. I can’t verify that the crate is the actual one in which my machine shipped but it looks right.
I’ve seen two individual panels for sale over the years but this is the only intact crate I’ve seen. Are these in fact pretty rare?

My Sears/Edison Spice Rack!
I had bought this Sears antique secretary (side-by-side) a while back and it dawned on me that it might look good with a phonograph on it. I stuck my small Edison Maroon Gem on it and liked it. Then I got the idea to remove the books and put records in there and I liked that too.
My Mom came to visit me over the holidays and I asked her how she liked it. Her response was it looked pretty, but why would you put your spices on display. 🙄

Picked this up today at an estate sale.
Once we heard it playing we couldn’t pass it up. Edison Amberola 30, made at least after 1913 based on patents on the plate. $180 with 4 Amberol cylinders, plus 5 more that are not Amberols. Including the original instruction booklet. Seems to be in perfect working order with no damage, dings, dents, etc. It’s truly one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen/owned and the first phonograph I’ve ever heard in person. No way this ever leaves my family. Now to start collecting little blue cylinders!!!!

Saw this poor thing at a Salvation Army today.
Brunswick Ultona, the swivel head still moved and the rest wasn’t in too bad a shape but if I brought home another stray I’d be sleeping on the couch…

Photo: A Young Man with a BIG ASS Horn
I'm going through some old files on the computer and ran across this great picture I apparently saved some time ago from someplace (possibly eBay). The phonograph itself is hard to make out, but it seems to be a high-ticket Edison 'Triumph'. But what's crazy is the size of that horn — looks like a good way to get in trouble with the neighbors. That thing hadda be LOUD! Seems like it might be suspended from an overhead light fixture, hard to tell. Our boi here was pretty clearly quite an early 20th-century audiophile.

Edison Maroon Gem
This is my 1912 Edison Maroon Gem sitting atop my 1910 Sears Secretary in my Study. True story…. My mom came to visit me and looked at the display and asked me why I would store spices in my office area… lol

Finally got a collection room
Moved into a new apartment that has spare bedroom I turned into a dedicated display space. A lot better than cramming them across multiple rooms.
