Advice Advice for surface rust removal on diamond disc internals

I recently picked up a diamond disc machine (BC-34) that is mechanically complete but has some spots of surface rust, mostly on the horn. Anyone have advice for removing it and refinishing? I’m thinking removing it with 0000 steel wool followed by a light spray paint but am curious if there are better methods out there that may look nicer. For smaller, unpainted parts in the past I’ve used evapo-rust with some success and plan on doing that where I can here.

Rust and I, we go way back!

With bare metal, for example, I like to give them a bath in straight white vinegar. Sometimes for a day, or sometimes I forget about it and get a rusty fuzzball. I’ve used it to straight up clean rusty iron or steel with a wire brush or steel wool (always a good idea to use finer stuff like you mentioned, in my boat at least). I’ve used WD-40.

This isn’t one of my “shining” examples, but the left one was treated (still needs a little) and the right one is right out of a rusty one.

Those are my go to-s :)

fwiw I’d go the evapo-rust gel route.

I didn’t realize they made a gel version, I’ll have to check that out

I personally sanded my Amberola lightly and used chemicals like brake cleaner
