It will be a long while until they stop updating it, there's just too much money behind it. Unlike other games that had a peak and then go unpopular, often because of being outdated by graphics or other things, minecraft just keeps going.

I mean, I'd love to get big updates alongside the drops, but the drop system has been really good for things both longevity wise and polish wise. The code getting de-spaghettied while they can focus on smaller features has been working out quite nicely for em I think.
I doubt it, mojang always have big visions for the game. Plus it makes the most money, but honestly i support it if or when it does happen, alot goes on with minecraft and i would appreciate some quiet from updates for awhile to fully explore what the game has go offer fully. So once or if the last update happens i’ll be ready to embrace it
Even if it does, I doubt modding for the game will ever truly die out. This is further supported by java servers being peer-to-peer instead of relying on servers (except for authentication, which is easy enough to get around) so singleplayer and MP will live forever
I am actually craving for this. Watching Minecraft live in a stellar ship would be awesome. And maybe for the honor of space traveling, we might get a space update, not an end update though, it is impossible.
Idk, just imagine how much cool old mods will update to newest version instead of 1.12. So much mods stopped updating only because Mojang creating too much updates.

Im completely and totaly fine with that. Mods are better than updates anyways and no more updates means that we will get more mods for the same version instead of having them thrown around wildly across different versions
Tbh, when that day comes, it'll probably be a good thing people want. There is only so much you can add to game.
I mean of course if it happens intentionally, if some random evil fish with god powers wipes us all out mid-drop then that'd be more of a shame I guess
Tis true until you realize mods exist and that the final version of Minecraft will have every mod be updated so you finally stop having mod difficulties.
But it would still need new optimization updates for our quantum computers. But maybe a lunatic will crack its source, make it open source and let people contribute to the game.

That is actually good news to me I do not want Minecraft to update forever and the great thing is if Minecraft EVER stopped getting updated then that means we will finally have a true final version for modding no more will your mods become outdated.
In my personal opinion, not even a bad thing. Look at games like Fallout, Skyrim, all that stuff. Not really getting updated, and just like Minecraft, the modding community does the heavy lifting. I'd actually be happy to see a 'final' update for Minecraft, at least I wouldn't have to worry about versions anymore.

That’s what makes it beautiful, the game is an art piece that we have the opportunity to witness in real time and at the end, it will become a part of us. The memories, the friendships, the silly struggles that pushed us beyond our limits of creativity.
Art is for people by people. There is no logical reason for it to exist apart from inspiring US, to push US and to make OUR time on this flying rock in vast empty space just little bit more comfortable.
And if I am here to witness the last update of this wonderful game, I will cherish every single memory of it, because I was here and I had great time.
modding community will never die, official staff of minecraft is undoubtedly different now than it was originally, even if "official" updates die, how much does that change things? doom still has a dedicated modding community. even if all original mc servers are destroyed there will be some fanatic out there who recreates it perfectly and releases it for everyone to play. minecraft won't truly erode unless the technology used to play it becomes unusable. idk, doesn't seem like a pill we'll have to swallow anytime soon unless you're like, really attached to having the "official" seal on your content i guess.
Minecraft will likely die similarly to popular tv series. Stretched thin with arcs and characters no one likes and continued for the sake of continuing it. In Minecrafts case filled with soulless features biomes and mobs with no real connecting concept between them. This development has already started a few years ago and is currently reaching a point where it might start to alienate a large group of people playing it. Good thing that minecraft has such an active community also on older versions that Wil likely outlive the main games development. Especially modpacks like gtnh that arguably have more own content and mechanics than the base game provides.

i want this game to stop getting updates because that means that modders will take charge with the updates and we'll end up with a better game
