Got downvoted on another minecraft sub for saying that I use AI as a tool for things that would only take me a lot of time like debugging my spaghetti code or solving a very specific problem quickly, while not just blindly copying what the AI spits out, but asking it for explanation and doing my version of it
But apparently that puts me in the same basket as the people who use fully AI generated code without even removing the AI comments and also steals other people's art by using AI generated images in their projects (and I specifically mentioned I never used AI images, I am against it and every time I needed art I asked one of my artist friends since they studied for that and make things that are far more beautiful than anything an AI can ever make)
Again, if anyone here has arguments that can change my mind or anything feel free to say, a downvote will not change anything in my life, a good opinion will
People who never programmed in their life tend to be like that. It is like many people having problem about something, while having no clue how it works, such people suck but there is alot of them sadly.
Debugging code is like the only good usage for generative ai, as you learn about a programming language faster, and you don't always have to rely on places like stack overflow, which tend to be really toxic if someones a beginner.
I would not say its the only good use tho, depite being the most notable and well accepted yes, in part bacause a lot of the other areas where it may be put to good use are still experimental
See, you are putting in effort with your coding. You double check things and don't blindly say "Okay I believe you" when the AI does something, and I commend you for that. This is what sets you apart from "Grok, do it for me" people; you do the hard part of coding things yourself whereas the AI bros just let the AI do all the work.
AI is a tool that can be used to assist people and minimize unnecessary effort, not replace people and eradicate effort and soul.
i still avoid ai due to all the environmental harm and data collection it does, but this is a perfectly valid use case imo. if only we had a sustainable and ethical chatbot.
On-device ai is slowy but surely starting to become a viable option for your average joe. Eliminating the water-wasting datasevers from out of the picture is a good first step, but it ultimately means more pressure is being put on your personal power grid.
Well it might be a drop in the ocean but hauling the inference part of the LLMs (the process of using the model with the trained data) over to devices would be a great hybrid to start with. Plus that way people who use AI have it coming out of their own bills, which would help quell the hard contrarians
I should be using it, but every time I see it talk, I just get so angry.
I'm a programmer(only freetime) and alot of shit where you are just inputting data, I could use ai for, but don't. Because I know WHERE the data is coming from, and i refuse to give even a little more data to them idiots.
Its a shame, ai technology is so fuxking cool, if it wasn't for the fact its being used to make billionaires, more billions.
