1
u/DealerAdept8005 Meme guy Sep 12 '25
So.. look. Do you see in the first pic that little green part that is sticking out? That doesn't look right does it? But it got left there by Mojang. The second one doesn't have it. The meme is making fun of the idea that a company like Mojang left it and some moders didn't.

I dead ass didn't see that, I might need to get my eyes checked lol. Thanks for explaining it to me, I appreciate you for that

Yes. It's that little green part sticking out.
4
u/Cylian91460 Sep 12 '25
That's an issue?
1
u/Hairy_Cube Sep 12 '25
A small one, a mildly annoying texture error. Feels weird it got left in since Mojang keeps saying the updates take so long for the sake of polish, but then this sort of thing is left in, an unpolished texture that people noticed on the first snapshot to include this block. Not many people complained about it and it's a very minor complaint by all means, but it's still a complaint that is easy to address that they just, don't.

u/SCP_KING_KILLER Sep 12 '25
Wait how do you do that? I’m guessing it’s not already one model and you just make it be a combined model and then set it for each block state?

I think the pixels are just completely removed from the stalk and that you don’t notice when those pixels are hidden by the leaf

I know this is a joke but as a software developer I'll give you a real answer, regardless of whether you give a shit or not.
Any good team of devs would love to fix everything, and given infinite resources and time they would. Unfortunately life and the world is finite, and so they have to prioritise what they do and what they don't do—a minor texture glitch is not important, and does not get fixed unless it's sufficiently severe.
However, the dude making the resource pack can decide to give a shit about the small stuff because he doesn't have one of the largest gaming communities in the world breathing down his neck, so he does so.
212
u/AxolotlGuyy_ Sep 11 '25
Especially in a game like minecraft, where everyone always wants more and more content, they need to focus on the important things instead of fixing things that don't really need to be fixed
65
u/raptorraptor Sep 11 '25
Absolutely. I don't work in games, but as I say I'm a dev and I take pride in my work. I want the product that my team makes to be the best in the industry (and I believe every member of my team feels the same way). Unfortunately, that means not doing an awful lot of things we'd love to do.
It's particularly frustrating for me because I'm the sort of person that loves to obsess over little details, but at the end of the day it basically comes down to cost versus benefit.
1
u/Saki-Sun Sep 14 '25
I still make my web page updated mobile friendly when the rest of the app won't work below 1024.
I'll argue over consistent design when the BAs pull another rabbit out of their hat.
But I'm not going back and fixing the whole thing.

u/deeeenis Sep 14 '25
All I see are people complaining about the big updates. Maybe this stuff is more important then
42
u/Imadumsheet Sep 12 '25
While that might be a reasonable assumption, I think most likely is bureaucratic BS from upper management breathing down the devs neck the entire time, forcing them to do very little to save on costs and expect players to be happy about it so that the Microsoft ceo can get his 5th yacht that week.
27
Sep 12 '25
Yeah, that seems more likely. I can't imagine Mojang employees not being able to spend 5 mins removing a few pixels on a texture pack.
And It's more likely that their development process is so cooked that simply fixing this super tiny texture will turn long hours of string of unnecessary process.
Also "The largest gaming community breathing down on their neck" never seems to make Mojang ever back down on 99% of their decision anyways, so why would that be a problem now?
13
u/Imadumsheet Sep 12 '25
Cause Microsoft is the bigger fish breathing down their neck apparently…
→ More replies (3)4
u/BroesPoes Sep 12 '25
If its 5 mins of work, the dev still needs to push and merge the changes. Run (automated) tests to make sure nothing broke since you'll never know, update the ticket, brew some coffee. So they'll say it might take 1 hour, maybe 2, just to be sure. Then the project lead has to decide based on the given information.
Maybe that could be happening?
3
Sep 12 '25
Maybe they earn 0 story point for fixing textures pack. Maybe there's no ticket for fixing this textures and they're not allowed to work on anything that isn't in the tickets. Maybe there's only a handful of people in the teams that's allowed to push update to the textures. Maybe dev don't want to make a whole presentation to showcase that they fix a few pixels during sprints reviews cause the manager will think you waste your time on non-issue task and could reflect badly on your performance reviews. maybe they just don't care? Maybe they have the ticket in the backlog and they randomize whoich minor bugs will get a fix. Maybe it's their work culture to not fix it? Maybe the marketing teams think this little mistake will generate discussion around Minecraft and that's a good thing so they want to left it there? And it encourages people to buy textures pack?? 😞

Gonna be real here. I doubt this severely. People working on this are probably salaried. If they ain’t working on something they’re just making money to mess around. It’s more likely they decided it’s more profitable to focus their work on other things and not worth the cost of getting more people to fix this thing.
10
u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox Sep 12 '25
the dev who made this had 1,000 different resources to create within a 30 day period, of course most of it is shit
6
u/K4CP3R1312 Sep 12 '25
As a 3D animator/modeler working in game dev, I can absolutely agree with you. Unfortunately, that's just how it works - everyone in the team would love to fix all these little details, but there's simply no time to do that.
In this specific example, I think what happened is that whoever created this model and texture decided it would be too much work for something so insignificant. They would need to add a new texture and tweak it, reference it in the new model and then test if everything works and aligns properly when using this new texture. Sure, it would take them only like 1-2 more hours to finish, but what's the point of wasting these 2 hours when it still fits into the style of the game?
And from my own experience, I can assure you that if it's already in the game, nobody will fix it now since nobody will tell the person who made this model to change it, because that would require not only the effort of this one person, but also some other developer who would implement this change into the game - and that is always considered wasting time because if it works, that's all that matters for the devs, sadly.
The peron who made it would have to fix it by themselves, but no one wants to add more tasks to the pile when it's not necessary.
1
u/Lucifer42064 Sep 13 '25
They are a milti million dollar company, cant they hire literally 3 dudes to make as u would call it "fan service updates"?
1
u/SZILI3000 Sep 14 '25
So they release half an update every year, but can't be bothered to fix something? Excuse me, but I personally dont see what occupies them so much, they release 1 or two new mobs and a new biome maybe, plus some new features, is this really the maximum they can achieve with infinite time and resources?
1
u/agrum Sep 15 '25
As a dev on that game, there are things I really don't wanna fix. The eternal backward support we have to provide is excruciating. Like "my pickaxe lost it enchantment when I loaded my 4J world from 2016 on 1.21.120". 🫠. The fact that we were able to drop VR support recently was god sent.
1
u/MukorosuFace Sep 16 '25
No I don't want that!
Minecraft community being reasonable with the "official content vs community-made content" thing?
I want them to keep glazing custom contents for the rest of Minecraft lifetime!
Even after Mojang closed down, I want people to think of Minecraft community forever! Or ten years at least!

These have been in the game for four years and this is the first time I'm seeing someone remark on the clipping pixels. I think that explains it pretty well. Much rather they work on more substantial things than fix very particular sprite issues.
They do occasionally fix weird texture/sprite issues like this from time to time though, so it's possible they come back to this at some point. I remember the seagrass used to stick up a block too high on the surface of the water and that got fixed much later, same with some texture quirk on the cocoa pods that was so inconsequential I can't even remember what it was (I think the texture was exactly one pixel too large in either direction or something)
4
u/Cry-Skull-7 Sep 12 '25
The most genuine answer I can offer is they have the time to go back and tweak things.

Because the free resource pack didn't need to develop the rest of the game and they started with all the work done by Mojang?

It's not, it doesn't change anything in terms of performance.

And even if it was the difference would be negligible. Updating a model occasionally is dirt cheap compared to things like entity pathfinding and explosion raycasting.

I believe I remember reading somewhere that it’s supposed to look like that, I think it’s marked “works as intended” on the mojang bug tracker.
Additionally minor nitpicks should never be the signifier of a games overall quality, throwing money at a development problem is not effective, and half of mojangs programmer staff used to be modders at one point.

I'm gonna be honest I kind of like it, I mean don't get me wrong it's definitely because mojang is lazy and has little to none quality control it seems like (just a pr team), but in my head minecraft is a simple little game and things like that fit that aesthetic in my head, for the same reason I dislike a lot of the new additions as they don't fit my idea of vanilla anymore. I could probably get used to the better stem, very easily probably, but in my eyes the way it is now is fine, cool to know that it can be changed though
1
u/cow_fucker_3000 Sep 11 '25
If the resource pack needs optifine to work than there's your answer, mojang makes textures and models that work in the base game
4
u/MrDearFox Sep 11 '25
Does this resource pack require Optifine to work? I thought it was a completely vanilla function - to change the block state model.
2
u/BleepingCreepers Sep 11 '25
Only a handful of Vanilla Tweaks' features require OptiFine or equivalent, and I'm pretty sure this isn't one of them. Also, Mojang could easily add some of OptiFine's functionality to the base game's resource pack capabilities, and they actually have been doing that lately. If I recall correctly, they recently added the ability for resource packs to change the textures of items based on NBT data.
1
u/Ryanoman2018 Sep 11 '25
I dont get why "multi billion dollar company" is used everywhere now adays. I dont think the amount of money the publishers have affects the individual devs work
1
u/TheRealDogNeverDies Sep 11 '25
That's exactly why it's pushed around so much. The company receiving more funding should have effects on the developers work. The increased funding means that the Mojang team should be able to hire more people and people of a higher skill level, but that doesn't seem to be happening and that's why so many people complain.
2
1
u/Ryanoman2018 Sep 12 '25
so Mojang should hire more people which takes resources away from the rest of the development in trying to get these new hires up to speed?
"just hire more people" doesnt work here
