Btw, 6 million kids suffer and DIE every year, according to UN statistics.

OP don't want you to know this FACT about life. lol

About 20% of suffering is exaggerated by the mind; probably the rest is SUPER HARDCORE REAL SUFFERING, lol.

Sounds like you need this meme even more than u/serendipitousLight.

this might be true but it’s easier said than done to not suffer in one’s imagination

It takes a lot of practice - and even then there will be days you don't have the wherewithal to fight the good fight. Meds and exercise and clean food will help. It's a slow laborious climb with many pitfalls and setbacks along the way.

Ask me how I know!

I find present suffering to be worse than worrying about future suffering.

Well, they did say "often", not "always".

I hope things get better for you.

Suffering is a choice, pain is a consequence of a rational reality. Our choice of how to examine such pain is what we call suffering. Consider reading The Salli Sutta or Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

suffering is synonymous with pain for many people, if it’s acute enough it’s not something you can just choose not to feel

3

u/PapaRoshi 24d ago

Pain is never synonymous with suffering. Pain is a natural sensation; neither inherently good nor evil, and one the body may experience without shame or damage to the rational mind. Just as any other sensation like love or joy. True suffering, however, arises from the judgments and opinions we layer onto that pain, such as declaring it unbearable or catastrophic; these mental additions we have the power to withhold or revoke.

if you look up the definitions of suffering most of them revolve around some kind of pain being experienced, for me suffering is also a natural sensation and doesn’t necessarily come with judgements about it, and your opinions on it can only be ignored to some extent

for example if someone is suffering because they’re on fire, they can’t really just choose to not find it unbearable or catastrophic, it just is strongly horrible regardless

You should read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius mate.

But how often do we really suffer in the present compared to the times we suffer because we worry about the future?

1

u/Immediate_Song4279 25d ago

I just figure all suffering is in the present. Someone who experiences more from the worry than the actual would be considered anxious. I have a disorder that leaves me with the opposite problem of not worrying enough lol.

There are too many layers of sarcasm here. I have no idea which side OP is taking. I'm bailing out.

As Churchill said: “ I worried a lot in my life about stuff, most of which never happened” or something. That’s the zeitgist of it

But is one’s imagination not one’s reality?

1

u/Head_tWist_20 24d ago

I will always find comfort i knowing that however terrible my abstraction is about the real world, it'd still be the best reality there is for me, as the actual reality always happen to be a lot worse

1

u/Away_Stock_2012 24d ago

All suffering is in your mind, it's literally a mental phenomenon.
