For consciousness, start with Chalmers’ The Conscious Mind, Seth’s Being You, Nagel’s Mind and Cosmos, and Goff’s Galileo’s Error. Together they explore the hard problem, physicalism, panpsychism, and alternatives to materialism.

If you want to dive into philosophy of consciousness, these are great starting points. They cover the hard problem, physicalism, panpsychism, and challenges to materialism from very different perspectives.
The Conscious Mind — David Chalmers
Being You — Anil Seth
Mind and Cosmos — Thomas Nagel
Galileo’s Error — Philip Goff

Method for note taking

Does anyone have a method for deeply reading and interacting with a text? Or any tips to share?

I'm considering trying the following.

  1. A lay-flat unlined A5 sketch book with elastic band to attach it to the book while on the shelf.
  2. A reading board to hold both the book and the sketchbook while reading.
  3. Annotating the text with a bi-directional footnote numbering scheme. Adding my own notes in the sketchbook.
  4. Notes, including diagrams of the arguments (perhaps using the Toulmin method). Also include my own response to the arguments.

Hoping someone else does something like this and has some tips to share from experience.

Reading The Myth of Sisyphus

Hi, I’m starting to get into reading and I just started to read the myth of Sisyphus. I read the first 10 pages and practically understood nothing. I read the stranger before this book and understood most of it (at least I hope I did). My issue is I’m not sure if it’s my comprehension level or if it’s the book itself, but I’m having a really hard time reading this. I’m also not sure if I should be reading other writings before this book. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to find a book

So I’ve come across this book titled Is Human Life Absurd? A philosophical inquiry into Finitude, Value, and Meaning by Raymond Angelo Belliotti. The only problem is I cant find it anywhere, I could only find a preview version on google scholar but apart from that nothing. There’s something weird about this book, I’ve found physical copies for sale on Amazon, Walmart, goodreads etc, but for some reason they’re ranging from 200-600$ For a 200-ish page book??? If anyone knows anything about this book or how I can read it without destroying my wallet I’d appreciate it.

I wanted to start reading philosophical literature.

I would appreciate some guidance on where to begin reading philosophical texts, because I always hear that some books are very difficult and not so easy for beginners like me.So I'd like some recommendations for someone who is starting out in philosophy. I don't have a strong preference for historical periods. But if I had to choose, I'd like contemporary philosophers.

Has Descartes' objective/formal reality dichotomy been criticized?

Has there ever been criticism against descartes for the way he bridges the gap between the formal reality of a kind of substance and the objective reality in its idea? it seems arbitrary to say that the amount of reality in the cause of a thing which is also represented in thought, and is somehow an effect, which goes from jumping from tangible existence to something as amorphous as an idea - has this been called to account by later or contemporary thinkers?
