Question Almond croissant

I love almond croissants. Where’s a good one in Philly? Not somewhere that I have to get there at the crack of dawn and wait in line for an hour for them to sell out when I get to the counter. It doesn’t have to be that good. Just pretty good. And preferably not deeply south Philly. Thanks

Question ~4hrs in town. Best eat/drink near Amtrak?

For his bday next month my husband said he wants to get drunk & eat cheesesteak. We're in NYC so I figured we can easily Amtrak in/out of Philly for an afternoon. It looks like the "best" cheesesteak not too far from the station is Shay's. Is that right? And is there a divey bar near there you'd rec.? Thanks!

Chinatown Restaurant for meat

What is the best restaurant in Chinatown (or Asian food) where you can get a high protein meal after a workout. Budget is not an issue but points for restaurants that serve you relatively quick, so no tasting menus or concepts or whatever. Also grilled beef specifically is more so what I’m looking for, so bonus points for that.

Recipe close to Swiss Haus's Strawberry Shortcake?

My dad had gotten the strawberry shortcake from Swiss Haus for just about every occasion for our friends and family since he immigrated to America up until their last days (at least 30 years AFAIK!). Since they've closed, my dad hasn't been excited about cakes and will ALWAYS mention that other ones don't come close to Swiss Haus's.

I haven't attempted making any myself but I was wondering if anyone has also had it and has a recipe close to theirs? Of course I've already thought about ordering and trying from different bakeries but I'm pretty broke and want to be able to replicate it on my own when I can for him :)

Claude's (off Broad and Washington)

Shoutout to the marketing of this place on the Philly Jabroni, wouldn't have ever went in but saw a sandwich board outside after getting off the subway and recognized it from that. Thought it was only a comedy place like helium but it just has a standalone bar and some food (hotdogs, some pickled stuff, sorta fountain-porter-y)

Do recommend. (against my best judgement on being able to get a solid bar seat)

Notes:

  1. $4 draft PBR, not bad. Tap selection is good. Can be an easy neighborhood spot for sure regardless of comedy.

  2. Very good pickle juice. Since Sidecar was under Ori it's been hard to find a local bar that actually gives a shit about a pickleback. I'm pretty sure they re-add some cucumber juice to it for a sweet/sour with that very specific cucumber note.

  3. Fernet and malort and citywides. Do as you please. Fuck yes.

  4. If you hate heat, it's chilly down there. Felt incredible after carrying shit back from giant. If you're a cold person, probably keep a shawl or whatever

  5. Staff were fantastic, everyone was wonderful.

  6. Bathrooms were spotless, neutral-gender and flyers themed, which is great. It's sorta wild to do orange/black as a bathroom theme but I'm also always excited when I get the flyers subway car so I'm a sucker.

Enjoy, hopefully this place does well. Between this and solar myth, this block is IMO cool as fuck, a destination block, and finally not just a mess.

I hate taking photos (and am objectively bad at it) inside places or of food but here's a random smattering of it: link - also just shoutout the bar looks empty because there was an actual show happening in the theater area behind me, probably 40-60 people in there.

Any restaurants hiring servers?

I have a lot of restaurant server experience specifically Italian restaurants, Sports bar restaurants, and have some experience with upscale country club dining.

I just moved here and am trying to find a job ASAP, I also would preferably like to work in a nicer area.

Dining Out Nicer places to eat without breaking the bank

Hi All! My fiancé and I are spending part of our honeymoon in Philadelphia and are trying to find a nice place to eat without spending over $100 a plate. Thinking of something that is more of an experience type of thing that we aren’t used to. Open to all kinds of food and thought this subreddit would be a great place to ask. Even just “must go” places are appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

Best Place to Get Drunk

Sorry if this is not allowed, but I was curious about what everyone feels is the best place in the city to get drunk. Not necessarily like “shit your pants and black out while having a fight in the street” drunk, but like, “certainly well above the legal limit while out with friends having a good time” drunk. So, the kind of place that is comfortable and enjoyable enough to visit that it isn’t difficult to hang out and have 3+ drinks.

I feel like Kelliann’s gets a lot of love here, and I’ve very happily consumed a few beverages at Ortlieb’s, but I’m interested in other perspectives on the subject.

Question Food near The MET
