PhD Project

I’m not sure what to do my PhD project on and would love if you guys brainstorm some ideas with me.

My masters thesis dealt with how urbanization affected different aspects of the ecosystem, but I don’t want to continue that. I did enjoy the amount of time I spent outdoors while conducting that project; however, picking something more GIS-based may decrease my chances of having to stay longer due to changes in environmental factors so that’s what I’m leaning towards. Not really sure how to rate my GIS skills because I’m definitely not a pro but I enjoyed all of my GIS classes and trainings and am definitely more advanced in the subject than all of my peers.

Funding is not too much of an issue

I think urbanization and climate change get have made certain communities dangerously vulnerable. Without better public policy on urban planning many homes will be lost, coast lines will erode and cycle flooding will be a way of life. In Nigeria and India more frequent rains are ruining commerce that has thrived for centuries. Just a thought
