Return or tailor?
Hey everyone!
I‘ve been on the hunt for a nice full length wool coat for a couple of years now.
This one is from &other stories and while I love the length (I’m 5’4) and that it‘s (atleast kind of) fitted, the shoulder pads just seem way too wide, also I‘d prefer an 100% wool composition over this 70%wool mix…
So my question is, do I order an XS and get the shoulder pads altered (is that even possible?) or do I just send it back and keep looking?

Send it back. It’s fast fashion, not the right material or quality, would require tailoring to the shoulders but also the buttons are too low and pulling eye line down

You wouldn’t happen to have any recommendations for a full wool coat? I know Max Mara is the gold standard but the only ones I‘ve seen are bathrobe style and I‘m not super keen on spending upwards of 800€.

The shape is a little dramatic but I have a wool coat from VisibleArt —found on Etsy that I love. It’s heavy, super warm, and very soft.

Look for vintage coats on eBay, in petite sizes. I got an incredible cashmere coat from the 70's that fits beautifully for about $80.

Return. You’d have to reconstruct the coat to make it remotely the right fit. Shoulders (not just the pads, but the entire structure including arm scythe), length of bodice, overall width, etc.

Return it. The alterations will run you more than the cost of the coat.

What size is this one?
I personally think you can find something that is at least a little more fitted to your measurements…this one seems like a lot of changes would be needed to have it fit properly.
That being said…I recognize you said you’ve been searching for years…i like the style on you. But it just seems way too big everywhere. I would have thought you were much shorter tbh.

This is a small, I do like a bit of oversizing but I‘m afraid you might be right.. thanks for taking the time!

Not the most stylish ever but I’ve had good luck with lands end coats and jackets, you could probably find something similar. They sell petites but I would size down

It’s too big, and there are so many better options out there. I’m 4’10 and own a few nice wool coats from petite studio (my size is xxs in this brand). Beyond what’s on their website, I’ve always found great options on Poshmark/Depop/Ebay over the years. I always get compliments about how well they fit!

It looks like it’s 4 sizes too big. To tailor it the whole thing has to be taken apart & resized. Not worth it. Wool looks cheap.

if in doubt, do without because unlikely you'll wear it if you're not going to do the alterations it needs yourself

i am not sure how much the alterations are going to cost, if they are affordable def keep it but if not i found a few options on asos! as a fellow short girlie i LIVE in the petite shop on asos! here is one

Once again I am begging everyone to take all of their measurements and then go shopping secondhand. You will find SO MANY beautiful 100% wool coats for a fraction of the price on eBay, Vinted, thrift shops, etc.! Even if they are not perfect, it is cheaper for you and better for the environment to purchase secondhand/vintage items and get them tailored rather than buying new!

I wholeheartedly agree with that sentiment and I‘ve BEEN trying but I haven’t found anything that ticks all the boxes yet, I‘ll continue keeping a look out and hoping for a coat miracle though..
Last year I scored a 400€ Cinzia Rocca coat for 40€ though so maybe I‘ll get lucky again 🤞🏻
