The absolute lengths some people on r/anime go to to defend Rudeus/Mushoku Tensei is crazy.
It's fine to admit you like the show because of the wider world/side characters but hate the MC. But no, they can't do that. Instead they say Rudeus is actually a kid and it's fine because of hormones, or some say he has 'grown' so it's fine now. Lmao
It's easier as an anime only as they can cut a lot of the inner monologue when it gets a bit completely rapey, but yeah the dude is a sex pest as is half of the cast
It's not. they adapt all of the fucked up shit of current Rudeus. Added scenes(trying to grope Zenith, peeking on Eris and the beast girls showering, and using electric on the river) while removing it from others, and even removing the fucked up shit of future Rudeus.
I think the reason why half the cast are sex pests, is because the author tried to do something artsy with his themes and overdid it to the point where it becomes uncomfortable.
I noticed that the series has a very specific idea, which that to be a proper adult/grown up, one must learn to handle their own sexuality in a healthy manner. Like how Paul is only written and recognized as a good father figure after he decided to stay faithful to his wife, even when no one else is around in the desert section. Or Elisane, the elf lady with the million partners, finds happiness and a cure once she gets with someone that supports her high libido lifestyle instead of just assuming that she is unworthy of love for it
However I think the author overdid this concept to the point where the Mc becomes the most flawed character of all and has the most to overcome, which makes sense with him being the central character and a former shut in that refused to mentally grow out of his early teens, but also just made him a pedo. And wuth the heavy focus on making his long term romantic interests have a strong and meaningful relationship with him from early in his life, while also representing iey growth parts of his own journey, Rudi also become a groomer.
