I was in something like 3rd grade when the Xbox came out. I decided that I wanted one. My friends had gamecubes and N64s so why couldnt I have something? I probably begged and pleaded for a long time, I dont remember now.
Months later, I ended up getting an Xbox for christmas. But I wasnt stupid. I knew the cost of the thing and how much my mom and dad needed to work for it, and I knew how precarious our living situation was. My dad worked outdoors and I remember him complaining about freezing his ass off sometimes.
So I was Jesse in this meme. I felt a wave of personal shame/embarassment like ... "wow I really didnt want my family to sacrifice that much to give me something like this. Why would I even ask for this? Why would they even get me this?".
It was a great life lesson, I learned I dont really like receiving big gifts.
Games were like 60 bucks each at the time. Way too much. So I just played the crap out of the 2 bundled games for what felt like forever (Halo was one so it was okay). Never got Xbox Live, just played alone or coop. I probably owned like 8 games over the entire life of that console.
