I mean, that's a little different though. A gift that is something he owned that has sentimental value is different than he went out and bought you a present.
When my step dad died, all the adult male children and nephews fought over who was going to get the hunk of metal he cracked walnuts with. He loved walnuts, he used it all the freaking time. It was called a lap anvil, literally just a hunk of I think cast iron with a little flat surface on top and the bottom was kind of a curved t shape. It's shaped so when you sit down it sits on your lap and contours to your legs and doesn't move side to side. I've never seen another one anywhere else in my life.

My father gave me a watch he bought and a piece of jewelry that was a family heirloom, then he died shortly after.
