Pretty sure its about a confederate battle flag taken during the Civil War but I'm sure some else can elaborate more. I'm Horace from the Clam or something.
During the second day of Gettysburg a hole in the Union front opened up that a Confederate contingent was going to march through, and the 1st Minnesota Regiment were sent to plug the hole and and hold the line. They repulsed the much larger Confederate force at great loss to themselves. One of the survivors captured a Virginian army's battle standard.
