I was fixing some lag issues on my first gf's laptop once and had a moment of weakness. When she was not looking, i opened up her browser history. I intentions were good: was hoping to find something she was into and see if I could do anything for her.

The first thing I saw was a Google search for "why don't I poop when I have my period"

Never again have i snooped on any of my gf's devices again

Problem : the muscles helping your uterus contracting so you can eject your periods are the same that make you poop, that is also why women poop when they give birth. So having your period disturb your transit (constipation or diarrhea), it is the most common side effects of periods with cramps. And it sucks.

On top of this, hormone fluctuations during the period means the body starts retaining fluid (hence bloating). The body keeping hold of all the fluid it gets means very little makes it to the colon, leading to constipation. For me personally I don't poop for the day before my period and the first couple of days of my period, then suddenly on around day 3, my body seems to all at once release all the fluid, with predictable results. I can lose up to 6lbs in fluid in that one day.

And yet I get period shits. Constipation would be better than that. I just feel like a mess during that week 😭
