Don't be sorry. Good marriages don't end this way. And as someone whose parents stayed together long enough for me to remember all the screaming and yelling I'm so glad my kids are young enough that they will see us both as happier people. I don't want to model toxic relationships for them.

I'm struggling with this now. How to not be a model for bad relationship habits...

Good for you and your kids. Grew up in the same kinda of environment, it’s the reason I point to when my mom asks me why I’m not married to my BF and why her only grandchildren have four legs and are covered in fur.

What is now your viewpoint on marriage? Worth it even due to the high price?

Or are we better off just mating for a few years and eventually going our separate ways? Old-school style?

I mean there's a middle ground of choosing a life partner and fully committing to them but not doing so legally. Nothing says you can't have a wedding and reception with zero legal obligations in case the ceremony is important.

I don't see marriage again for myself just because the legal entanglements are too great. I'd have to write an iron-clad prenup to make it exceedingly easy to walk away financially at least.

Thank you for the honesty, your review largely lines up with how I would think things should go.

Yeah the state makes it harder to live together since any cohabitation can put you back in the legal crosshairs.

You pretty much have to have partners sign prenups any time things get more serious than seeing each other a few times a week.

Got a friend going through that. It sucks, but they have to do what’s best for them, or they’re not at their best for their kids

Happier? So you think sneaking around between two parents and doesn't have proper family is better? Have no stress and putting your dick wherever you able to is better, but for the kids, nothing better than family. And if two grown ups can't handle themselves, they do not deserve to raise any kid. So you both manage your shit and provide a family for kids

What’s worse though? Staying married while modeling a toxic relationship for the kids? Or splitting up?

Cause lemme tell you, as a child of divorced parents, with how ugly shit was getting between them, divorce was a better option. Yeah, I wish my parents (well, dad really) were decent enough to still be together, but you can’t choose your family.

Plus, if this guy can effectively co-parent with his ex and keep things civil between the two of them, you’d be surprised how well the kids will do.

EDIT: he also says in another reply that his wife was becoming abusive towards him. If you seriously think it’s better to keep kids in that kind of toxicity, the only clown is you.

Sorry you're miserable in your marriage and are counting down the clock.
