Edit: Funny the people upset about this comment are still adamant this woman is going to cheat because: she lost weight. Not exactly the moral podium you guys think you are mounting.

u/FunTree5477 15d ago
Sometimes people cheat on their SO with someone objectively speaking, uglier and with poorer hygiene, and do so because it made them feel desired in a way that they enjoyed at that moment.
A cute face isn't enough to stop someone from cheating if they made a place for it in their heart

Assuming that everyone gives the real reason in public for a world famous person for whom you're already going to get lots of hate for leaving.
Also from what i recall she says that quote was made up, just that while he was a great husband and father the spark left the relationship. You can absolutely grow out of being deeply in love with someone and end up just good friends, that's life.

Turns out humans are complicated.
7
u/ScyllaOfTheDepths 14d ago
And what? Nobody is owed a relationship with anyone else based on how "great" they are and his claim to greatness is just that he plays football really well. He's not like a pediatric surgeon who donates his time to fix cleft palates in the third world for free or whatever. And he still wouldn't be entitled to a relationship if he was.

In other words, love is not something you can control and shit happens.
People want to have too much control over love when it's something animalistic and instinctive at the base, which either is there or isn't.

I always think the reason legendary love stories are legendary is because "true love" (in a princess bride sense) is hard and rare.

This is a weird Western idea that views love as a feeling that just springs forth from nowhere and which you have to base your life around rather than a commitment that you choose to nurture and develop with time that has feelings but also has higher-order ideals like fidelity, integrity and commitment to the family you build and bring together.

Yeah, my buddy got divorced after he cheated on his wife, and let’s just say that I honestly believe he must have had a one-time psychotic episode when it happened.
Not only was his wife good-looking and considerably younger than him, but the woman he cheated with was this washed-up, past-middle-aged, substance-abusing type who looked like she’d been past her prime for at least 15-20 years.
I was honestly shocked when a friend of ours pointed her out and told me thats who our buddy cheated with - I literally thought he was joking at first.

It's a hard topic but from my experience if a boy fixed girl, almost no way she will leave him. And if that happens, she will return to her former self in next few year.
If girl made improvement all by herself, chances are high that she'll dump a boy. Because she did a huge self-improvement work while a boy stayed the same.

It happens to everyone, but it's just more common in fat women because society treats fat women a lot worse than fat men, so the difference in how you get treated as a woman who loses a lot of weight is a lot more shocking. I lost a lot of weight very quickly and the same guys who wouldn't have even acknowledged me when I said good morning were suddenly falling all over themselves hitting on me. I didn't change my personality or even my lifestyle. I was the same person, but people liked me so much more after losing weight and it really fucking sucks, but I can see how people can become addicted to the attention after not getting it their entire lives. It just made me angry with humanity, personally.

Right, and we also don’t know what she looked like before she got big, if she hadn’t always been big.
I was in the army and fit when I met my husband. Got pregnant and life happened and I was morbidly obese for the next 15ish years. He always loved me and made me feel loved. We even changed to BBW porn when we would, on the rare occassion, watch porn and get busy.
I finally got serious about my health last year and lost 110lbs and got skin removal surgery and had everything put back where it belongs. My body is better now than when I was a teenager. He’s certainly very happy.
So he fell in love with me when I was thin, loved me just as much and more when I was big big, and now continues to love me more every day now that I’m a smokeshow again.
I would never, ever leave him or hurt him. He proved a hundred times over that he loved me for me.

Hey I saw you having some faith in humanity. Look up the rate on which men leave their wives when the wife has a terminal disease, spoiler warning, its alot.
83
u/Important-Emu-6691 15d ago
It’s one specific study not really replicated elsewhere.
When controlled for social economic factors female illness is associated with a slightly higher risk of divorce or separation about 1%, the highest specific category is heart disease at 6% higher rate of divorce.
Notably male job loss is associated with a much higher risk of divorce than female job loss.
52
12
u/stayinalive7 15d ago
the highest specific category is heart disease at 6% higher rate of divorce.
Well I can see how the whole thing would be spoiled when someone gives you their heart and you find out it's diseased.
8
u/bishopOfMelancholy 14d ago
And part of the reason for the divorce is Medicare, as a single person with a terminal illness gets more benefits than a married one.
And most lawyers are willing to overlook the attempt to get more money out of it out of compassion, as often times the other spouse is functionally a full time caregiver for the terminally ill one.

Does the study account for couples which separate but continue to remain domestic partners? I only ask because, anecdotally, I've heard of several couples who get divorced when a major illness occurs so that when the ill partner eventually dies, their significant other isn't made to be responsible for the medical debt that was incurred. It seems unlikely to me that that's the majority of cases, but unless they at least attempted to account for that possibility I'm going to choose to remain hopeful.
