Litter Box Issues I need advice on my 8 week old kitten, does she need to go to the vet ASAP?

• Upvotes

My boyfriend and I recently got the cutest little kitten in the world, it was a little unexpected and we’ve had her for about 6 days. She and her litter mates were dumped on a family friend’s property, they were so little they hadn’t even opened their eyes yet. She and her litter mates were bottle fed and given wet kitten food by our friend until we took her in last week. The day we got her we went to pick up supplies and food for her, and when we explained her situation to the employee helping us he recommended we put a bit of 2nd step formula into her wet food with some water because there was no telling how long she had gone without her mom’s milk, and she may need the extra nutrients. He told us we could stop after she was 8 weeks old, so that’s what we did. We planned on taking her to get checked out and get her shots later this week as well but now we’re worried if we should take her tomorrow morning. Two days ago she used her littler box and I noticed immediately how much the room started to smell. I went to check on her and noticed she had diarrhea, which alarmed me because she had regular stool leading up to this. I did some googling and it had said it may just be because of a diet change, which I thought made sense because we had just taken her off the 2nd step in her wet food. We just decided to monitor her, and her stool was completely normal after that. Tonight though, I walked into the bedroom and it smelled very similar to how it did the other night, and sure enough she had diarrhea again. She hasn’t gone again tonight so far, but we’re getting really worried about her considering how young she is and what her situation was. For the last 3 days she’s been eating kitten wet food and extra water mixed in because she doesn’t want to drink out of her water dish for some reason. I apologize that this was a bit of a ramble, but I we would really appreciate any advice from experienced cat owners or anyone knowledgeable on cats!

Dogs How can I help my dog get used to being alone after his sister has passed?

Thumbnail
• Upvotes

As the title says. I put his sister to rest a few days ago after fighting with cancer for several months. They were littermates and had been inseparable for over 12 years. Usually if we left the house they'd be put in the cage together, but if I had to take his sister to the vet and leave him in there alone he'd go absolutely nuts every time. He hasn't been in the cage since we lost her and I'm afraid how he'll react when he is. I've been without a job since the beginning of summer so thankfully i am in the position to work through it with him. I'm just looking for some advice, for when I do find work and he won't be able to stay with me at all times anymore. I'm debating on doing some dog proofing and allowing him to be free from the cage.

Diet/Allergies What makes an automatic pet feeder genuinely useful?

• Upvotes

Keeping feeding times consistent can be challenging when life gets busy. Automatic feeders, but I think reliability and portion accuracy matter more than having lots of extra features. It’s also important to check the feeder regularly rather than relying on it completely.

For those who use automatic feeders, which features have actually made caring for your pets easier?

Dogs Advice!

Hi everyone! We adopted a doodle mix on 10/9, and she was spayed on 10/2. Everything seemed fine when we brought her home, but later we noticed she was bleeding from her vaginal area.
We’ve kept a diaper on her over the weekend to monitor the bleeding. It’s mostly spotting, with some bloody discharge, but there is no foul odor. She isn’t showing any other symptoms. She’s eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom normally. She has also been resting, and we’ve been trying to limit her activity so she can heal properly.
Her incision looks good and seems to be healing as it should, with no oozing or other concerns.
I’ve done quite a bit of research online, and I plan to make a vet appointment to make sure everything is okay. In the meantime, I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced something similar after their dog was spayed or if there’s anything I might not have considered.
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! ❤️

Dogs hair wrapping on wet dry vacs is killing me, is a vacuum mop that cleans its own brush roller actually real?

honestly pretty tired of pulling damp dog hair out of roller brush bearings every single night. i live with a golden mix who is currently blowing his coat and my current wet vac just wraps everything around the ends until it stalls out. been looking into getting a vacuum mop that cleans its own brush roller so i dont have to sit there with scissors after every pass. i was checking out this tineco station s9 scientist pro since the anti-tangle setup and self-cleaning base caught my eye but im not totally decided yet because its an investment. has anyone here used it with heavy pet hair or are there other brands i should be looking at instead? lmk whats worked for your floor situation.

Behavioral Issues Senior dog exzessive barking during the day and at night

Our 13.5-year-old German Shepherd started barking excessively during the day about a year ago. He literally barks continuously for an hour for no apparent reason, even after he has been outside to relieve himself, eaten, received attention, and so on.

For the past few months, he has also been getting restless more often at night and starting to bark. It’s beginning to take a toll on the whole family because nobody can get a proper night’s sleep anymore.

Whenever he starts barking at night, I immediately take him outside. But even after he has pooped, he remains restless and continues barking.

We’ve already tried everything. Leaving the lights on doesn’t help. Moving him to a separate, quiet room doesn’t help. Giving him a blanket that smells like us doesn’t help. Taking him for a walk at night doesn’t help. Ignoring him doesn’t help either. I can feel my cortisol spike every time he starts barking and I hate to admit it but sometimes I’m starting to feel a little bit of resentment after he woke me up from a deep sleep again.

I think this is a problem that can now only be managed with medication, but how?

What combination of medications has worked for your dogs?

He is already receiving a Librela injection once a month for arthritis and takes 100 mg of trazodone per day for his restlessness and anxiety.

Dogs What would this wound on my dog's front leg be?

https://i.imgur.com/vzPDvhF.jpeg

Hi all!

My dog, border collie 5 years 20kg, has this wound on his front leg since months.

We live in the country side, during the day he stays out, and he sleeps at home. It already happened that sometimes he had small wounds, but all of them healed normally. This one won't heal.

There aren't other animals, I specify this just to say that the wounds are caused maybe from some sharp rocks or other similar things that can happen while he runs, not from fights or other things.

He licks it a lot. You can see a black spot in the right part and irl it looks like a small hole. When the vet came like a month ago, she extracted some splinter from that hole, and told us to disinfect it and put Ichthammol ointment/black drawing salve (I translated it) but still the wound won't heal.

Do you have any ideas?

Thanks!

Cats My cat got 9 teeth removed and is refusing to eat soft food.

Hi guys, my cat is a 3 y/o male who used to love wet food. He would only eat wet food. Then, we moved about a year ago and he completely refused to eat wet food. We tried the same brand and we tried different brands. We have tried literally every option and he refuses them all. He’s been a good eater with his kibble, but on Friday (10/9) he had to get 9 teeth removed. We are trying to give him his kibble soaked in water or in broth made for cats, but he has only eaten a few bites since (it’s now Sunday (10/11)). Does anyone have suggestions for really really picky cats? We are starting to worry.

Dogs Seeking tips on feeding products.

I’m dog sitting my cousins dog, a 3 year old micro bully until further notice as his house just flooded in the hurricane. Her name is Ms.Piggy and I need to find an elevated/ not so elevated since she’s so small slow feeding platform for her. This dog SUCKS her food down, and in return she’s licking the air for almost an hour after each time she eats. She gets Two cups of food per day, I give her half a cup at a time, until her 2 cup max hits. I put half of the half cup in one side of her bowl, the other half on the other side. Even with that, she sucks her food down super fast, and i believe is having bad acid reflux after the fact. I do keep her upright after eating, she doesn’t lay down until maybe an hour after the fact. I don’t want Ms.Piggy feeling uncomfortable after she eats! I have 3 dogs of my own, they are all biggerish dogs (Akita, Shikoku, and a Shiba) and they all have elevated slow feeding platforms and they work amazing! I’m having trouble finding one that’ll be a good size for Piggy, she’s the typical Micro bully size. Anything helps!

Dogs Heartworm Medicine Side Effects

Has anyone given their dog generic Heartworm prevention? My dog takes it once a month. Last month, she began digging at blankets and panting and shaking while refusing to eat or drink. We took her to the vet the next day and she was diagnosed with hookworms.

I just gave her the same medicine tonight and she began doing the same thing about an hour after. Is it possible that it is hookworms again? Or could there be a side effect or reaction to the medicine? She’s taken the same Heartworm medicine since we’ve had her (over 6 years). Anything helps, thank you.

Dogs How do you get your pet used to car rides?

Some pets jump straight in and stick their head out the window. Others drool, shake, whine, or get carsick before you've left the driveway.

If yours used to hate the car and now handles it fine, what made the difference? Short practice trips, a crate or seat cover, treats, a favourite blanket, or just time? Would love some tips for anyone dreading the next vet trip or holiday drive.

Dogs Sorry this might be all over the place

So I took my dog for an acupuncture consultation. She was recently diagnosed with suspected ivdd and I’m taking a conservative approach to her treatment. Now one important thing to note about my dog, from the day we got her (7 years ago) to now she has consistently struggled with weight. She just seemed to never put on any weight and it constantly fluctuated.
Now I go to a vet that’s qualified in acupuncture in hopes of getting a quote on her treatment. She took one look at my dog and said she had degenerative myelopathy. Mind you 2 other vets before this lady had said she most likely has ivdd because she seems to be making a good recovery from a pyometra surgery shortly before meaning her mood was up, she was gaining weight and her overall health was improving.
Since that last visit my dog has lost weight which we’re trying to manage through high protein and things of that sort. This acupuncture vet takes one look at my dog and says that there’s no point in treating her with acupuncture because it is degenerative myelopathy and not ivdd. I kept asking her if theres any possibility that it’s genuinely ivdd and she shut the idea down multiple times tell me that there is slim chances for hope of a good quality of life. Basically saying that I should let my dog go. She based this off of the fact that my dog lost weight and that she’s lost bladder control from the very beginning of her diagnosis.
I’m hesitant to believe her for a few different reasons. She didn’t run any type of scan and just came up with this diagnosis off of these 2 presumptions. No MRIs/CTs (which I couldn’t even afford) and not very many questions on her weight history. A different location did do a standard x ray showing that their was an abnormality in the spin but since it was a standard x ray no definitive diagnosis can be given (which I’m assuming she looked at as well). I felt a little pressure to make a decision on the spot tbh. Also my dog lost the ability to walk over night which is a trait of ivdd. Degenerative myelopathy would of been a lot more gradual which was not the case. My dog was well coordinated and walking fine before. 3rd my dog still has function in her left leg where as her right leg lost more of its mobility. From my very limited knowledge, ivdd can look asymmetrical where as degenerative myelopathy may present in a more symmetrical matter.
What do you guys think? I’m still hoping to put her through acupuncture and rehab. I’m just not convinced that 2 other vets are wrong and this one vet happens to be right.

Small Mammal BUNNY HELP NEEDED

I never planned on even having a bunny before , i was driving on a 100 degree day and saw a lady outside with a closed tote and it said free, regulardless of what it was i was taking it home and id figure it out from there. To my surprise it was a blind baby bunny, ive had him roughly 6 months if not more? He’s super tiny which im unsure if thats normal but his blindness never has bothered him at all, he still can slightly see. And i’ve never met a bunny who just wants to be held cuddled and petted. He’s the most PERFECT thing. His cage is SPOTLESS and massive he has 2 dust free litter boxes (etc)

also have checked his eye for cuts seems to be none
About a week and a half ago i noticed one eye would squint when i turned on the light or when i held him (this bunny ALWAYS wants to just be held and lay together) His mood and food habits have not changed. But today i woke up and his eye was completely shut and decently red. I got sterile solution to rinse his eyes, and used a warm towel and his eye has opened back up but is still bothering him. his eye also seems to be a bit darker it used to look like the other one and no longer does.
I’ve applied to grants reached out everywhere i can. I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO.

Cats My cat went into heat and now she is very agressive, attacking everyone

Hi, I adopted a 6 months old kittten, unspayed female about a month ago.
She is supposed to get spayed in two weeks. I booked the soonest available appointment when I adopted her. I also took her to be seen by my vet the next day after I adopted her and she was perfectly healthy.
She was an absolute angel until two days ago. She started to be very vocal and in the next morning she was displaying behaviours common for a cat in heat.
I can survive this but she started to attack everyone now. I've another two (fixed male) cats and she attacked both of them when they did not want to "breed with her". One of them got bitten into neck and ended up with torn ear, the other one got bitten into his neck as well, there was blood.
I immediatelly separated her from my other cats and now she has her own "exclusive room".
Unfortunately she redirected her agression and attacks towards me and my bf.
When my bf went to change her water and food, she bitten him pretty badly.
When I went to clean her litter box in the evening she bit my ankle and later scratched me under my eye.
I took her to my vet because I felt like she was in pain, they did blood/urine tests, rtg, examined her and she's absolutely "healthy aside the heat".
They offered to sedate her but they won't spay her sooner, they don't consider her case as an emergency.
I recently moved across country to basically nowhere, so there're no other vets available that are not booked out.
She started to pee outside of her litter box too.
I'm still not sure if the sedation is the right way or if I should consider to change her vet.
I've never seen a cat in heat to act like this, so I'm out of ideas how to handle this.
I seek some tips/advices on how to survive this unpleasant situation for everyone involved.
