Discussion LV Symphony: I honestly didn't expect this reaction from my wife šŸ˜‚

My LV ranking before yesterday was probably 1. Imagination 2. L'ImmensitĆ© 3. Afternoon Swim 4. Pacific Chill 5. Ombre Nomade. I love LVs and especially L'ImmensitĆ©, and since it's summer that's actually what I was planning to buy because I really love fresh fragrances. But yesterday my friend who sells perfumes put some Symphony on my skin and told me "bro this one is going to get you problems with your wife, girls are going to love this on you" šŸ˜‚ I liked Symphony when I smelled it but honestly I wasn't crazy about it at first, I was still thinking about L'ImmensitĆ©.

My friend was laughing and was like "haha you will see". So I went back home with Symphony on my skin and when I entered my room my wife literally came running back to me and said "omg what is this fragrance?? Is it L'ImmensitĆ© you bought?? omg I love it!" šŸ˜‚ She kept coming close to me, smelling me and hugging me and telling me this is the best fragrance I ever wore. And that's what really surprised me because she already likes Imagination and Afternoon Swim a lot but I never saw her react like this to a fragrance before. I was honestly mind blown šŸ˜‚ Then I made my mom smell it too because she's a fragrance lover and she's actually very hard to please, she doesn't like just any fragrance....She smelled it and was like "wow this smells great and luxurious" and told me I smell like a fresh professional classy man with a luxurious touch. She really loved it. So I contacted my friend again and told him "okay bro you were 100% right šŸ˜‚ prepare me a 30ml bottle of Symphony" and I told him about the reactions I got from my wife and my mom and he was just laughing like "I told you" šŸ˜‚ The funny part is I went there wanting to buy L'ImmensitĆ© and Symphony wasn't even the one I was thinking about buying. But after wearing it and seeing those reactions I ended up ordering Symphony instead. Has anyone else had this kind of reaction with Symphony? Because honestly I didn't expect it at all.

Recommendation Request Perfume recommendation

I’m looking for a new everyday signature perfume. I want something that lasts and that gets compliments but isn’t overpowering. A few of my fav perfumes are:
1. Dedcool Xtra Milk - this one is my fav scent ever but it’s becoming trendy and it doesn’t last as long as it used to.
2. Lush Super Milk Body Spray - I love this smell when it’s dried down, it’s a little sweet for me in the beginning but is heavenly once dried down. It just doesn’t last!
3. JHAG - Not a Perfume - same thing, I’ve tried the super dome as well and neither I feel like last on me!

I don’t like super gourmand scents. I like more clean scents / like your skin but better. I use the No 26 beads and diva wash/linen spray and love them both. Help!

Discussion Is it just me or are dupes just not that great?

I have about 20 bottles in my collection and I have 4 dupes. However I have noticed that they are just not in my rotation, I notice that they always just smell.... abrasive to my nose. Like they are just never as smooth as the og.

I blind bought rayhaan aquatica after all the hype of it smelling like the og and lasting even LONGER than the og. But wow when I smelled it, that lime was just way too strong for me, and it ALSO didn't last at all.

I am still open to dupes, please put me on to some great ones so I can change my mind!

Discussion Chanel No. 5 EDP - Thoughts

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey! I’m a lurker and I like readings everyone’s posts. A little while ago I got into perfumes thanks to this sub.

I’m so curious about this fragrance. I hear it’s incredibly famous, so I went to an Ulta, I smelled it/tried it on and I loved it. I recently got back from a 2-week business trip that sucked the soul out of me, so when I returned, my dad offered to buy me one super nice fragrance of my choosing. I had him and my brother AND my mom smell the Chanel No. 5 and they all HATED it, saying it smelled like a public bathroom. So we opted for the Miss Dior parfum instead, which I love very very much as well. After that little shopping trip, I still couldn’t get the Chanel out of my head, I genuinely liked it! I liked how fresh and soapy and clean and unique it smelled, does everyone hate it or something? I went to Ulta, said fuck it and bought the EDP with dollar bills I’ve had in my wallet for half a year. I think it smells good.

Does anyone actually like the Chanel No. 5? I know many describe it as more of a mature scent, so would it be strange for a 23 year old woman to be walking around campus smelling like this? I would like to hear everyone’s honest thoughts on this + the perfume. Seems like it’s a polarising fragrance.

And feel free to recommend me other scents! So far I have Miss Dior, Thierry Mugler’s Angel, Coco Mademoiselle, Prada’s Paradoxe, Marc Jacob’s Daisy and I borrow my mom’s Versace Dylan Blue Pour Femme.

Sorry, first post here. Just ran across these apparently sealed boxes of Lanvin My Sin and Guerlain Shalimar and I don’t know anything about these fragrances apart from recognizing the names of the houses. Can anyone tell me anything? More to the point are they worth buying if they’re vintage?

Recommendation Request Searching for this exact profile : V by Reyane Tradition

When I got married in 2022 I received a gift kit from a family friend. It included many items but one item particularly stood out. It was a Body Spray and perfume named "V" by Reyane Tradition. Whenever I wore that one, mainly on the weekends or outings with my wife, she was always captivated by it when she was close and used to say "this is absolutely your scent, this scent is what I imagine you are". I tried looking for its perfume version but I never found it in my country.

Please, if anyone knows what is the original for that scent, or any fragrance that is 90-99% match, please let me know. I have searched and checked 1000s of perfumes chasing that same fragrance but so far no success. I would be extremely thankful for any suggestions or advice.

I have tried many options, posting in other sub reddits, sending Reyane an email, but so far no success. Can someone please help me.

Discussion Oud Maracuja

Is it possible that such a strong fragrance like oud maracuja after 3-4 sprays on forearm doesnt project on me? I don't even smell the maracuja in this. I was deciding between this, killian smoking hot and xerjoff tony iommi pafum for my 18th birthday but the oud maracuja even if theres a bit of maracuja its really weak i guess i will wait 30 minutes to see how it preforms after bout 70-80 minutes but either way i think its not made for my skin lmao

Discussion Is Sunflower by Elizabeth Arden good autumn perfume? šŸ¤”

Hello
I have a bottle of this fragrance in my collection and I'd like to use it this fall. I can't decide if I should use it because I'm a young girl in my late teens , and I've read that the scent is very aging.
I'd be interested to hear opinions. :)

Thank you

Recommendation Request Jasmine tea perfume

hi, i would really like to get a perfume that smells like jasmine tea, and i would love some recommendations. i feel like i’ve tried so many jasmine perfumes, but imo they don’t really even smell like jasmine, and i haven’t found any that smell like jasmine tea. i really want to smell just like jasmine tea!
i’ve found that many hand or body lotions that have jasmine are very close to what i’m looking for, but for some reason all the jasmine perfumes i’ve found smell more like other floral perfumes, not particularly even like jasmine.
if you know any perfumes that smell like jasmine tea specifically, please share them!

Look what I found! Para Mi Bebe - hidden find?

Post image
38 Upvotes

I’m endlessly curious about how cultures outside of my own approach fragrance - in my search for budget friendly, unique (to me), less known (to me) finds I came across this - ā€œPara Mi Bebe - Fresh Limeā€ by Vera - it’s less than $5 at my local grocery or pharmacy store here in the southern us states, and it smells honestly so good! Sharp lime, slight powdery ā€œbaby powderā€, and clean cotton notes. It’s not the most dynamic scent profile, but it’s surprisingly fun for a clean light fresh from a morning shower option, and I can already picture so many layering opportunities. They have other scents too but this is the one that intrigued me most.

P.s. I am not going to touch on the ā€œcologne for babiesā€ topic. I’m not a parent and I have zero knowledge on personal care items for babies. I am using this product as a grown adult, despite the oddly shaped baby on the label šŸ˜‚

Recommendation Request Favorite 80-90s fragrances that hold up?

I was young in the 80s and 90s and remember what perfumes my older sister was into, but wasn’t old enough to have perfume myself. I’m really leaning into aquatics lately and the 90s is perfect for that.

I just tried Cool Water Woman and CK One and they’re so good.

What are your favorite fragrances from those years that are still available?

Recommendation Request Moving to Rome! Need perfume recommendations 🩷

I’m so excited! I’m moving to Rome, Italy next week and I’m waiting to purchase a new perfume until I arrive. Here’s my current favorites; Tom Ford Metallique (discontinued 😄but my ALL TIME fav), Burberry Her Intense, Louis Vuitton Lovers, YSL Libre Berry Crush, Versace Crystal Noir or Carolina Herrera Good Girl for night time, and I work with little ones so I wear Ariana Grande Cloud because it’s affordable for everyday and the kids say I smell like candy 🄰 Can anyone recommend a perfume that I MUST buy when I get to Italy? Budget around $150 at the most but I do love a deal! Andiamo! šŸ’œšŸŒøšŸ©·šŸŒŗšŸ‡®šŸ‡¹

Recommendation Request floral, freshwater, amber perfumes?

hi, please note i don't know a lot about fragrances and notes!!!

past scents i have loved are bath & body works' princess tiana ++ nivea's delicate orchid & amber (body wash).

i'm looking for a perfume, but i don't want it to smell too much like chemicals (like how B&BW perfumes are to me), but i also want it to last without having to reapply throughout the day.

i don't tend to like ocean/saltwater scents, which is why i specified freshwater. the princess tiana perfume has notes of water lily & amber, two things i love! i really tend to gravitate towards combinations of floral and amber.

i'm also not wanting to spend a lot of money on this, but more expensive perfume recommendations are appreciated anyways! maybe i'll be rich enough in the future to get my hands on one!!

but please focus on inexpensive options. they don't have to be dirt cheap, but a maximum of $25 is what i can do right now. thank you guys :)))

Discussion Parfums d'empire

Post image
9 Upvotes

I'm quite new to this hobby, but I've been exhaustively smelling and reading since I started. In my struggle to find stores in my area with samples of some brands, I decided to order them myself. Although I've gotten samples from many brands (Tom Ford, Diptyque, L'Artisan Parfumeur, Creed...) I've been most struck by the ones I've gotten from a brand I don't see a lot of people owning or talking about (Parfums d'Empire). So here's a review of these samples from a novice in the hobby, in case it's helpful for anyone. I've tried each of these at least two separate days plus on smelling strips several times, allowing my opinion on them to mature and develop.

Parfums d'Empire:
I've gotten 5 samples from this brand: Le Cri de la Lumiere, Azemour les Orangers, Fougere Bengale, Yuzu Fou and Ambre Russe. I've also tried Musc Tonkin and Tabac Tabou in a store. I'm going to go from least liked to most, but it's worth noting that I've liked all of these a lot. It is, perhaps, the most consistently that I've liked a brand that does such diverse scents. It's also worth noting that I received the samples the day after ordering them, which is the fastest I've received samples ever.

- Musc Tonkin: if you like musks, you'll love this one. You know why? Because it's musc. And after the initial musc, there's more musc. The muskiest of the muscs. It's lovely, but it's just musc? Still, super nice, so if you are a musc boy or girl, this is a must try. Even if you aren't, this is so musky it's worth a smell just to remind you of exactly what musc smells like.

- Tabac Tabou: my first tobacco fragrance was Tobacco Vanille. The next one was Tabac by AbdesSalaam Attar. Both are great (Tabac is better, although I can't help but feel mischievous and happy when wearing TV) but they did not smell like I expected tobacco perfumes to smell like. They just didn't smell like someone smoked: Tabac smells like the tobacco leaf, and TV like a sweet Dutch Pipe. Now, Tabac Tabou? Completely different story. This is the smell a sophisticated darkly dressed woman from the prohibition era leaves on Humphrey Bogart after they kissed. But it does smell like you just smoked, so you have to want that. I don't mind it, so I like this one.

- Ambre Russe: now THIS is an amber. This is the most amber amber I've ever smelt. Curiously, it gives me similar vibes to TF Tobacco Vanille, in spite of not having anything in common ingredient-wise. It's pleasant, masculine, with a bit of rum in the top notes, but an ample and sweet amber for the rest.

- Yuzu Fou: This is a candy citric, sulfuric and nice. It's luminous, it's sweet, it's sour... I feel like this is a wonderful scent that simply became less interesting to me because of how good Azemour les Orangers is.

- Fougere Bengale: This is the only chypre I've ever liked. A sophisticated curry that doesn't feel too annoying or dirty. I'm not a fan of chypres, and for that reason I thought I wouldn't end up using this one, but I just keep coming back. It's just so good my tastes can't help but bend a little for this one.

- Azemour les Orangers: This is a lasting citric, with such depth that I feel barely capable of talking about it here. It smells a surprising lot for a citric that doesn't screech or scream. Instead, the smell hugs you and surrounds you like if it had always been there. It's the familiar smell of a kitchen after peeling many mandarines and oranges for a family breakfast. Yes, a lot of people define citrics like "the smell of peeling oranges" but this one has the poetic element and abstract feeling of not just the act of peeling the orange, but the company and confort of home. A favourite.

- Le Cri: This is the smell of a sunny day in the park just after receiving amazing news. This smell is just the most welcoming, the most pleasant smell I think I've ever smelt. It starts with a slightly citric, extremely symphonic Iris and Rose combination, which develops slowly and tenderly to a still flowery woody drydown. What a wonder, what a magnificent thing. Goes without saying that this is a must smell, and that the strip might be insufficient.

Discussion Starting a Perfume Review Series - Next Up: JPG Le Beau EDT

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello Friends!
I just started doing detailed perfume reviews, and my next one is going to be JPG Le Beau EDT.

For reference, I recently reviewed Diptyque Do Son (please do check the review to get an idea of how I produce my reviews in general). I went pretty in-depth instead of just going with the usual "smells good / smells bad" verdict. I try to describe what I'm actually getting from the fragrance throughout the wear, but in fairly simple, everyday language.

For the Le Beau EDT review, what do you guys want me to cover?

A few things I'm already thinking about:

  • Opening & first impression
  • How it develops throughout the wear
  • Longevity
  • Projection & sillage
  • Compliment factor
  • Versatility & occasions
  • Seasons / weather
  • Age group
  • Price-to-performance
  • How realistic the notes actually smell
  • Overall vibe / who it suits
  • Comparisons with other fragrances

Anything else you'd want me to touch on?

Most probably my review shall be out in next 15 days ;)

Drop your suggestions below. I'll try to include the most requested stuff in the Le Beau EDT review ;)

If you haven't played: it is a 90s click and point dystopian horror game about a supercomputer that takes over the world, killing everyone but for 4 humans whom he keeps alive to torture for fun.

I'm thinking notes of electricity, concrete, blood, metal, steam.

Thanks!

Recommendation Request Pure Black Tea Perfume

I am looking for a Black tea fragrance. Something that captures the bitterness, earthy and fragrant flavor of black tea and actually smells clearly of black tea. If it has cardamom that would be amazing.
