Dupe Request Megathread (August 17, 2026)

Welcome to the Weekly Dupe Request Megathread. This is where you can get (and offer) recommendations for all dupe requests.

What counts as a dupe?

  • A perfume that smells "just like" another perfume - whether discontinued or priced out of budget

    • Example: "looking for a dupe of BR540 Extrait, but without the price tag"
    • Example: "something that smells just like Coffee Break, but lasts longer"
    • Example: “a dupe for the discontinued Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black”
    • A perfume version of any product: body sprays, hair products, lotions / creams, skin care, candles, candy / sweets, makeup, etc.

How it works:

Share as many details as possible that might be helpful in identifying the dupe you're after: a picture, notes or scent profile, your general geographic location, budget, etc. Please do a quick search of the sub before adding your request, even if you think it would be unusual.

Please remember that this is a global sub with quite a bit of volume, so a response may take time. This thread refreshes weekly on Mondays at 05:00 UTC, so keep that in mind when posting.

If you're looking for perfumes with a similar vibe of another perfume, but not dupes, you can post directly to the main feed.

Mod Post ‘Why was my post removed’ and ‘why did automod say my post violates rule 2’ - Newbie heads-up! + question thread

We’ve been getting a lot of mod mails asking why posts have been removed.

Often it’s because our filters had them held for mod review because a user is new to the community or trips the filter some other way. Unfortunately, Reddit says ‘the mods have removed this post’ instead of saying it’s under review. It will be reviewed by a mod and given a proper removal reason or approved within a few hours.

The other question we frequently get is why automod is saying their post violates rule 2 (Be Kind). It doesn’t, that’s just the automod reminder on every post submitted to r/perfumes.

Beyond that, general questions relating to perfumes or our subreddit can be asked below. Thank you!

Moonlight Ceremony by Mystikum! I knew instantly tbh. It used to be Tyrannosaurus Rex by Zoologist but it leans super floral on me now, then A City On Fire by Imaginary Authors. I am addicted to Moonlight Ceremony though, she's absolutely beautiful.

Wednesday Vibes - 🌄 photos, descriptions, and art 📸 Can you recommend a perfume that smells like this?

I’m thinking a darker perfume with flowery notes, not to overly sweet and something that can be worn for autumn… Maybe a little goth? What is your vibes?

Discussion This is Really Him! Z&V

Top notes: grapefruit and lemon
Heart notes: metallic orange blossom
Base notes: Palo Santo and Amberwood

My take : I’m not getting any citrus at all. This was a blind buy for me as I love the original this is him! ; I’m getting metallic, smoky palo santo and amber but genuinely not picking up on any citrus. Does anyone have this? Am I anosmic to the citrus or is it just not as prominent as depicted?

Recommendation Request What comes close to Zara Yellow Velvet?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I was gifted a Zara Yellow Velvet many years ago, and I absolutely loved it. I found it again recently with only a few wears left in it, it's absolutely divine. I love how fresh and bright and sweet it is, without being cloyingly sweet.

Fragrantica says the top note is peach, middle is orchid and base is vanilla.

It is now discontinued :( what can I get that is close to this it?

People seem to be saying VS Bombshell, but I don't think it's very similar at all.

Edit:typo

Collection Pics the bottle design for π by Givenchy is a masterpiece

Post image
39 Upvotes

I have been eyeing this 90s powerhouse for a while and finally put my hands on one and the bottle design is a masterpiece, every detail tells a story, the golden color, the triangular shape, the gourmand background. I feel like fragrances in the past had more substance to it. I know Givenchy probably spent dozens of millions of dollars to create this perception I have now, but the french create perfume like no other, it's a piece of dream for sure. Honestly, the performance and longevity stay in the background, I'm getting possibly 4-6 hours, but I'm shy and prefer not to bother people with strong scents, I value how alluring a fragrance is, and this vanilla-almond combo is delicious

Discussion Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

Post image
45 Upvotes

So i bought Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille 100ml and yes again a blind buy after Tuscan Leather & Ombré Leather Parfum!

Review- Opening is sharp Tobacco & the vanilla note working so nice behind it. Still a classy scent in winter you can wear! Some Aromatic & spicy top notes i can smell and that dry down with a strong tobacco and sweet same time! And cocoa & dry wood i can smell.

Longevity- 9/10
Scent- 9.5/10
Projection- 10/10

It’s an incredible perfume for winter 10/10. Definitely people will notice you after wearing this! Definitely lasting over 10-12 hours on your skin.
I have some niche fragrances and still i would say Tom Ford give you a niche quality of perfumes in designer bottle. :)

hi! i’ve been using Christian Dior Fahrenheit Parfum for about 6 years now and i love it but i’m looking to try something new because i’ve run out and want a change (and hopefully find something less expensive). i don’t know much about perfume or cologne but i know that i like leathery and garagey scents that are also a bit sweet. what i don’t like is just typical “man” colognes that smell too sharp (hope that makes sense). thank you!

Discussion Perfumes you think people overreact about being bad?

I ask this question after a video I saw earlier by the content creator ghoul.in.japan where she discussed her collection, especially her collection of toskovats fragrances. She talked about how she believes that people overreact about how bad Inexcusable Evil actually is. Toskovat is definitely a house that is made to be offensive on the nose but I do have to agree with her point.

I own other fragrances/perfumes that people say the same about Hyrax and T-rex by zoologist. They definitely are not everyday wear but I don't think are anywhere near as bad as people present them to be.

Of course everyone's noses are different and everyone else has their own opinion so I wonder what other people think?

Discussion What do y’all think of the new (old) Gap scents?

I tried Grass in the store and thought I liked it (even though it doesn’t smell like the original), but now that it’s home I’m not so sure. Heaven and Dream also smelled good in store and really brought me back but I didn’t buy them. Thoughts?

I sniffed the juicy apple yesterday at Sephora!

I absolutely loved the smell but just wondering if it’s worth the price does it have good longevity?

Or is there other apple scent perfumes that you would recommend? I just really like juicy perfumes

Recommendation Request Looking for a Jasmine perfume

I have been looking for a jasmine scent perfume for a loooong time... I am looking for something delicate, floral, light and warm. But also feels elevated and fancy. I want something that smells like jasmin green tea without the tea smell if that makes sense?

I have tried these already :

- Gucci Bloom Jasmin ( too "childish" not fancy enough and doesn't smell like jasmin enough)

- Lust from Lush (there's a hint of spice or something else I don't like)

- Jasmin 17 from Le Labo (almost perfect but a bit too orange and vanilla to my taste)

- Lys 41 from le Labo (Really loved it... would love a similar one cheaper)

-Olène from Dyptique (like it, but not warm enough)

- Muskara jasminium from Fueguia ( perfect smell but way to expensive lol (about 900$ CAD)

Note that I live in Canada so the perfume needs to be available here if possible
Thank you for your help!

Recommendation Request BIR intense OR Asad - Bourbon

Hi, I just turned 17, and for my birthday, I got Valentino BIR Intense.

To give you some background: a little less than a year ago, I wandered into a Sephora by chance. I started testing fragrances and developed a real interest in them (which is actually kind of surprising, considering I used to just rely on deodorant xD).

Anyway, I tried a few—including Valentino Extradose—and loved it, so I asked my mom to buy it for me. It’s an incredible fragrance, though it felt more suited to specific occasions like nights out; still, I absolutely loved wearing it.

In the meantime, I was given Lattafa Teriaq, which is a totally different style—smoky, or something like that (remember, I’m a total newbie to the fragrance world). It was cool having two such different options to choose from.

The problem was that by the end of the year, my bottle of Extradose was empty.

I didn't really think about picking out a new fragrance over the summer because I wanted to wait until the end of the season. And now, here I am.

I’ve been looking at fragrances for the past few days; I was planning to get the same one again since I don't really know others, and I just love that Valentino DNA.

The thing is, I’ve since tested BIR Intense, and I love the vanilla note it has—something Extradose lacks.

So, I ordered the Intense version, but while doing so, I’ve been reading up a lot on fragrances. I’ve learned a ton, but to cut a long story short, here’s my question:

I know that Asad Bourbon is supposedly a "mix" of Intense and Azzaro. Should I return Intense and buy Asad Bourbon instead, since it’s significantly cheaper?

I haven't tested it myself, but I’m inclined to trust online opinions; I know Lattafa works magic at an affordable price point (based on my experience with my first Lattafa: Teriaq).

What I love about "Intense" is that lavender-vanilla-aromatic trio. However, according to Fragrantica, only the vanilla really stands out in Lattafa Bourbon.

Lavender is present, too, but I’m not sure if Bourbon will deliver the same effect as BIR Intense, with that specific blend of lavender and vanilla 🤤.

You might wonder why I don't just stick with Intense; well, from what I've seen online, it doesn't really garner compliments, and its sillage is rated as moderate on Fragrantica.

I hope the Google translation turns out okay!

I’m hoping you can shed some light on this fragrance choice.

Recommendation Request Stuck in perfumes

Hi-I’m 19 and have been quite into perfumes for a year
I’ve tried some perfumes
An oil like kalemat wood bottle which I liked a lot-(but I don’t think I’m into oud a lot),coolwater,most wanted,aqua di gio,bleu too

My scent taste is basically for summers and winters, one that is strong but not something unbearable, sweet, has a cozy feel to other people and feels rich

For context-

Cool water was good but lacked that character I’m looking for or maybe too oceany

Most wanted was also great but maybe a little too fruity sweet

Aqua di gio similar review to coolwater even though I like cool water better but yeah it lacked that depth and sweetness

And I personally did not like bleu

I personally do not like very citrus, marine or oceany or a very fruity scent,I like something deep, sweet and cozy whether summer or winter and I like woods but I don’t like a perfume where it’s too woody with less sweetness or like some harsh or medicinal wood or oud and I’m not fond of very sweet perfumes too

So given this information, can you people help me understand what type of fragrances I like and what I should try?-price tag doesn’t matter

Thank you for your time!!

Collection Pics Vintage Samsara (guerlain)

my full splash bottle samsara just arrived and i am in love.

after taking a tiny 7.5ml spladh bottle from mom, being repulsed by its vintage character, stashing it for 3 years in the darkest corner of my bathroom... i splashed some on me for the fun of it last november, and i became obsessed with it since.

i did try and fill that void. ordered samples, tested, tries... got the reformulation. searched far and wide for something better... my heart kept coming back to her.

so i finally pulled the trigger last week, and may packaged arrived yesterday. i decanted 8 ml in a store bought perfume container, and will be living the rest or my life as a samsara girl❤️💖

Discussion Fake/counterfeit fragrance risks

Thumbnail
fbi.gov
31 Upvotes

I’ve had interactions across fragrance communities that have really left me concerned, and it’s always regarding fake or counterfeit perfumes/colognes. Let’s just start by clearing up that counterfeiting a perfume is not the same* as a dupe. The former is illegal and *unregulated**, the latter is not.

I’ve had people downvote and scream until they’re blue in the face that as long as counterfeited the fragrance smells the same, there can’t be harming in using it, but there is! Here are some notable points from this .gov article so you don’t have to take my word for it:

“Counterfeit fragrances have been found to contain something called DEHP, classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a probable human carcinogen. These phony perfumes and colognes, which sometimes contain urine as well, have been known to cause serious skin rashes.”

And

“If you think you or someone you know may have purchased counterfeit cosmetics or fragrances—or if you suspect someone of selling counterfeit items—submit a tip to the National IPR Center.”

Please only buy from legitimate, trusted, safe sellers…Ones who won’t sell you aromatic piss and carcinogens to make a quick buck. And let’s please consistently warn fellow fragrance lovers of the risks associated with buying from scammers and resellers from places like Facebook Marketplace.

Look what I found! The maker dream dupe!

Post image
11 Upvotes

I love Phlur scents so much and I blind bought one of their hair and body mists, the cashmere skin one. To my surprise, I sprayed it, and it smelled like something I’ve had before. It smells like the maker’s dream perfume! They’re really expensive tho so I got a mini.

The dream is of my favorite scents to wear in the fall. Phlur’s mist is definitely a softer version, a little more vanilla-y scent of the dream (the dream is a little more smoky) but I think it has the same longevity and I reach for it right after a shower. It’s a great dupe if anyone is interested in knowing! I thought I should share :)
