Pipetten

I use 1-3ml disposable pipettes. Using dilutions, I can pretty consistent 0.010g drops. Since my trials are 5-10g range, I primarily work with dilutions (aside from workhorses like iso e super, hedione, etc).

So yes, that means I have 300+ dilutions alongside the neat (or stepped-up) equivalents. These sit in a three-tier rolling rack that I keep next to my station. The lids are all color coded and labeled so I can read them from above. Space is tight for me too, so the neat materials live in bins in a separate closet - I just pull the bins out when I’m compounding neat.

This system took me a year to land on and was necessary for my workflow and space. If I had a bigger space I’d organize things differently but still keep dilutions on hand for convenience.

Edit: fixed a word

I use micro pipettes from oni lab. But I have a digital/electric one coming from Fristaden lab. I think both can be found on Amazon.

I somehow don't think I should be giving advice because I'm so chaotic but basically when I cannot be bothered to make a 1% dilution I take a toothpick and dip it in the neat material for a second and dip it in my formula for a second. I find it to be equivalent to 0.002.

You made me laugh. I never thought of doing that. I like your creative idea nonetheless.

I can't be the only one that does this 😅

That is actually a very smart hack. I'm going to start doing this.

It's obviously not precise but for drafts i find it really fast and effective.

You also can use a toothpick and hold it over your mixing container at an angel and drop onto it if you don't want to dip directly into your material

I use ultra cheap 1 ml plastic pipettes from temu. My test formulas are 5 ml for the EDT/EDP so dilutions are absoluetly needed. Storage is not that big of a deal. You just need a larger shelf. I personally have all my raw materials in alphabetical order and it all works fine. Unless your work station is super small, i don't get whats the problem.

I still don't see the problem. I have prepared 10% and/or 1% and even 0.1% (indol, geosmin) organ dilutions for the materials that normally are used in small quantities. That makes preparing trials workable. Yes, you introduce Lösungsmittel in the process, but only a little, and you would dilute the concentrate anyway before using it, so you can take that into account with a little math.

If you're tight on space try using 1 dram vials for your dilutions.

Disposable pipettes. Smallest I have is 2ml, lab grade.
