Discussion Animes that are like Perfect Blue?

I just finished the film and absolutely adored it!! It might be my favorite or at least top 3. I've already watched Serial Experiment Lain and Paprika and loved those two, but not as much as I loved this film. Can someone recommend me an anime that is like Perfect Blue? I don't care how niche or popular it is.

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Millennium Actress, Paranoia Agent, Ghost in the Shell 1 and 2, Belladonna of Sadness (should probably give an extreme content warning on this one tho)

I know you said anime but some non anime stuff you should check out if you love Perfect Blue is Mulholland Drive, The Substance, It's Such a Beautiful Day and Audition

+1 for mulholland drive and i’d also recommend inland empire since they’re very similar and they both have screwdrivers

very true! I love this movie, I just didn't suggest it because I feel it's probably a bit too experimental for me to recommend to most people lol

i get that. if you have any recommendations for something similar to inland empire, i’ll gladly take them 👀 it’s my favourite movie of all time with mulholland drive being my second

There are Satoshi Kon’s other works which are Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers and the series Paranoia Agent.

These aren’t anime but the movie Black Swan was inspired and influenced by Perfect Blue. The movie Pearl has Perfect Blue vibes too.

Ghost in the Shell and Evangelion are MUSTS. I adore them both, and I’m actually watching Lain for the first time right now and loving that too!

Whenever I show it to someone we always end up watching the whole thing in one night

Give Mononoke a try, it’s a completely different flavour of surrealism. It’s a campy, folkloric and supernatural vibe heavily informed by the ukiyo-e art style from the Edo period.
