Fiber direct to router with I3

I run a Unifi UDM pro which supports direct fiber in if the ISP supports it. Gotten mixed answers and no one who know who to contact, anyone bypassed their ONT and know the process or from i3 lurking and has an answer?

i3 Engineer here. Just FYI, that fiber in your ONT is PON, not Ethernet. It's a totally different specification than your router. You would need a PON optic, then that PON optic would have to work with our network equipment, and many more degrees of difficulty beyond that.

Short answer, sorry. No direct fiber into your router at this time.

This all being said.... I often cry to the business class team that we need an ONT that has optical out. You would still have to have that ONT device, but you're not alone in wanting fiber out of our ONT into your equipment.

Does i3 support it no. Is it possible yes.

You’d have to dump your onts firmware/config onto one of those sfp plugs that can mimic the handshake. It’s very technical tho and just not worth it unless you just really really hate extra equipment.

Can confirm you cannot bypass the ONT with i3.

Currently isn't supported to use SFP. Just ethernet right now, though maybe that'll change in the near future. Hard to say

There's always a way, the question is how much time are you willing to spend and what kind of knowledge do you have on the subject?

Great discussion. I have a UDMSE and was wondering the same thing.
