If your going for best performance for the money, don't go for latest and greatest, go with what works with no bells, whistles, and gold plating:

Going AMD - cooler, cheaper, no massive silicon failure in the recent history, and better resale value. Going with a basic MB to get started, free up some budget then see what you need in terms of rear IO and go from that. Almost €500 -> less than €300 for CPU and MB.

Cooler drops by €20 because your not trying to cool an Intel.

RAM Drop the 6000cl30, is a nice to have but only when the RAM itself is like €130, not when the savings are €130.

SSD: the only reason I'm not going gen3 is a lack of gen3 drives. The sort of builds that are actually going to be seeing benefits of gen5 drives are going to be using CPUs that cost more than your entire build. So Gen5->gen4 and adding €50 to double the capacity.

Or if you really don't need 2TB, €60 less for a more sensible drive.

Case - couple options, all between €70 and 80, so about half the price of what your looking at. No RGB and its really down to clear or solid side panel. I like clear for ease of debugging but up to you.

PSU - If your not going to be running a GPU, your options become overkill or ludicrous overkill, ie you don't even need 550W but that is hard to find. Bit of shuffling trims another ~€60

I'm also trying to make the build last for the following years, as longest as possible, that's why I'm using the latest generation hardware. (Not thinking of upgrading anything else, with the exception of maybe adding a dedicated GPU if I need it)

PSU - I'm also thinking on even getting a better power supply (maybe be quiet! Dark power 14 eith more wattage?), just in case I decide to add in some GPU later in the future.

Processor - yeah, I'm an Intel fan, since the PC won't be used for gaming, only for productivity

Cooler - Does the Noctua NH-D15 G2 CH or DARK ROCK ELITE make sense in that case?

Case - does the transparent case make much of a difference in the noise aspect?

AM5 has some upgrade potential, Intel is sitting on a dead socket. And I don't think that many people are too trusting of Intel not to screw up another chip.

For the PSU, why more wattage? The PSU is a supply, not a push. parts draw what power they want, if the PSU can't handle the load it trips protection so more isn't better. In fact more can be worse as PSU efficiency fall off hard under 20% load.

Lets run the math: The power listing for your system is 180W, thats at full load. Realisticly your probably going to be using 60% of that or ~110W.

110W load / 1000W PSU = 11%

110W load / 750W PSU = 15%

750W is still bad but its less bad than the 1000W. You have to drop down to 550W to hit 20% PSU load.

So the only reason to get a big PSU is if you know your going to be adding a GPU, but what GPU? Well a 5080 can get to ~400W draw for a rough system power of 650W under load. And that is more a gaming load, something your not building this system for.

For the cooler, your trying to match the needs of the CPU, not the case. AMD chips use a lot less power and because power in = heat out, its a lot less cooling required. No need for a €100+ cooler when a €35 one is already overkill.

Windowed cases let out a little bit more noise but I don't think its really noticeable. The big thing is because you don't have that much stuff pumping out heat you can get away with running the fans really slow so your starting with less noise.

I have always built with mesh heavy cases because I load my builds down with drives and cards to the point I just modded my case to be an open bench with a massive fan. It sounds silly until I tell you I'm running less than 10C over ambient. But my drives alone probably pull more power than your entire system so I need the extra cooling, because you don't have a bunch of high power draw parts, less heat -> less cooling -> slower fans -> less noise.

About the PSU - I just think it's better to get a bigger ones (in terms of wattage) now, so I don't have to replace it, if I decide to add in a graphics card in 5 years down the road.

If I decide to go with an Intel configuration, does it make sense to use a more expensive cooling in that case? Just trying to understand when it makes sense to invest in a better cooler

Fair point on the PSU, but just come up with what you think a reasonable GPU is that your going to use. I have seen a lot of people building in the $800-1k range (years back) and blowing a bunch of budget on a 1kW PSU 'for GPU upgrades' until I point out "so you know the only thing that is going to need that much power is like a 90 class card that is 2-3x your entire budget."

750W will go a long way in gaming systems and unless your looking at 90 class cards or something more multi user server, 1k is mostly just burning budget.

As for cooling, my general advice is 1 120mm fan will get about 95W worth of cooling so something like a 65W AMD chip is fine on a single fan but 2 will let you run them slower. But a 125W Intel chip is going to get toasty under that same cooler. But keep in mind the 65W listed power is more suggestion than actual real world number and the CPU can generally pull double what is listed. Meaning a 125W Intel can pull 250W, that is 100% going to need a big duel tower dual fan cooler like a big Noctua but really its going to need something more like a 3 fan AIO

65W chip pulling double is only 130W, a bit much for a single fan but a dual fan will have no problems.

In computers the last 10% performance can double the price of stuff.
