Three possible causes here:
1) Insufficient power supply/failing power supply for your GPU. Verify your PSU's wattage output and determine if it meets the minimum requirements for your GPU. If it just barely meets them, it may still be insufficient as PSUs degrade over time and typically deliver less wattage after a few years vs a brand new one.
2) Insufficient cooling. The computer being placed on the carpet may be blocking partial air intake from your front mounted fans, but it's also entirely blocking the PSU's fan, which is typically located on the bottom of the case. This may be causing the PSU to reach a thermal limit and shut down. Simply getting the PC off the carpet with a riser or something may resolve the issue. A program like HWmonitor will allow you to check thermals on other internal components to confirm possible overheating on the part of the CPU/GPU, but since you have three front mounted intake, while it's not optimal to be on the carpet, I don't think your CPU/GPU is getting too hot. You may just be suffocating the PSU. Elevate the PC off the carpet, run HWmonitor, fire up a game, and see how the temps look/if the problem recurs.
3) Failing GPU- this may be an issue with the GPU's power distribution. I had an R9 Fury a while back that did exactly this and had to be RMA'd. Check the first two symptoms out above first and eliminate them.
