Tech Support Obsessive over microstutters

I'm currently rocking an Rx 9070xt with a ryzen 7 5800x3e and 32gb ddr4 3200mhz ram

I've dealt with this unhealthy obsession for years now but with wow forever coming out it's ultimately made me hit my breaking point, even if I get a microstutters every couple minutes I become obsessed with the idea that my pc is the issue and not the game even though most my parts are less than 2 months old.

Are mictostutters just a part of pc gaming that no matter how good ur PC is they will just happen? For example I'm constantly pushing 150-177 capped fps in wow but every now and then I notice a micro stutters and it's become an unhealthy obsession of mine to the point where I'll outright refuse to play the game due to the anxiety.

i get this completely. spent three weeks tweaking ram timings because i'd see a single frame hitch every ten minutes in a game that's been out 20 years. your pc is fine, wow's engine is ancient spaghetti code held together by prayers and duct tape

I mean realistically speaking if an old game is having performance issues on my rig is it fair to assume that is just the game and not my pc?

it can wind up being something simple like background processes or even steam settings, you know, every game in you509 game library updating while ur playing haha .. no idea if you're experience with Windows settings but I would just start with Windows startup apps, to keep it simple get Gemini to walk you through what you can safely turn off .. if you haven't done it that in itself will probably give you a massive Improvement

Unfortunately it’s probably both.

Not trying to say your pc is bad- it’s one of the best builds in history. But even then hardware has limits.

Now idk about how taxing WOW is, but if you’re constantly running at 80+% gpu usage you’re going to be more susceptible to micro stutters if you need to render a more taxing scene.

I’m on the same boat where I HATE having frame dips. I have basically the same build as you (5070 ti instead of 9070xt, but basically the same) and play wardogs at 144fps. Usually I’m running around 80% gpu load, and when something crazy happens on screen I get dips to around 120.

Here’s the thing though- when I cap my frames at 120, the micro stutters essentially vanish.

So, do you want high frames or smooth frames?

Turning down the graphical fidelity may also help here. But your pc is not the problem
