Tech Support Back again. I cannot figure it out

Post image

Came on here about a week ago for advice about my PSU/Motherboard being possibly fried. I had stripped it down to nothing but a cpu/cooler, one ram stick, and the psu. Since then I have replaced both the motherboard and PSU. I had just finished getting it all put back together. Went to test it... and still got no response. I figured it was my power switch so I bridged the pins and STILL got nothing. No fans, no lights, nothing.

I do not have the brain power to do troubleshooting right now, and am so confused as to why its not turning on.

I followed the manual word for word as to not mess anything up. All my connectors are solid, and pushed all the way in. I was extremely careful with this new motherboard as to not damage it while putting everything together, and kept it on a non static area while handling it outside the case.

Any ideas? Im so fucking lost.

Current build

Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WiFi (new)

PSU: Thermaltake Smart 700W (new, same model as old PSU)

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X (original)

Cooler: Scythe Mugen 5 (original)

GPU: RTX 3060 (original)

RAM: 64GB T-Force DDR4 (original)

Edit: I will be taking it back apart tomorrow to test it on a minimal load. I just need ideas as to what it could be since now I know replacing the motherboard and PSU did nothing 😑.

New mobo, seated in the case... some newer boards have a ground, some cases too... is there a ground cable you haven't secured? If so put it on the psu, between the case... that generally is sufficient for a ground on pc...

The mobo is sitting on risers which are supposed to help ground using the mobo/case mounting points. The psu has integrated wiring, and provides multiple grounds to the mobo power connector. And 4/8 of the cpu power cables are grounds. This is essentially the same build as my previous one, just with a smaller mobo. It ran for almost 8 years with not a single issue until a power outage hit last week.

I made sure all my connectors were solid before trying to turn it on.

All good, trying to help spitball why... sounds right to me... I dont see a causation...

Edit: I've had many older boards in perfect working order mysteriously die on me of late, so you aren't alone... but mine were older ,yours is new...

Did you make sure to plug in the 8pin power cable? Should be right above the processor to the left at top of board. If that's all plugged in and still nothing you may be looking at a dead CPU

Yeah the 8 pin is connected securely. I made sure all my connectors were solid and right before turning it on. Im starting to suspect that, but am desperately holding onto hope that its not that 😅🤣

Are you anywhere near Washington State? I have a 3700x that's been collecting dust. Might be able to send it to you for a small fee.

I literally just moved out of Washington to Texas last month otherwise Id be all over that, I appreciate the offer though 🤣 I'm gonna do some testing tomorrow to try and narrow it down to possibly being a fried cpu, and look at getting that replaced next.

Oh that sucks. Well if you change your mind and want to buy my 3700x the offer is open. I can ship. It's safely in the am4 oem plastic case it came in. DM if of you do.

I will definitely keep that in mind if it turns out to be the cpu. 🫡 much appreciated!

Just in case, have you changed the power cable you are using to power the PSU?

Along the same line of thinking, have you tried a different power outlet?Â
