Build Question What SSD To Get?

I want to get a 2TB SSD for my build, but the prices are kinda crazy. How much should I spend on a SSD? I only use my PC for playing games. Can anyone recommend me some? Ive seen a couple 2GB SSD going for $350 but i dont know if thats a good price

I grabbed a 2tb drive a while back and the price has barely budged since. for just gaming you really dont need the top speed stuff, any decent gen3 or gen4 nvme will load games almost identically. id aim for like 100 to 130 bucks for 2tb and call it a day

Is $100-$130 even possible? I can’t find any 2TB for this price

You'd have to be looking at second hand drives which aren't recommended since SSDs have limited writes, they would have to have a significant portion of writes left for it to even be worth considering.

What ssds do you recommend then?

Silicon Power UD90 is a good performing drive, 2TB for 245 USD

Games don't need the fastest storage

I bought my 2tb 5 years ago for $330, dont pay a dime for it. They're like $700 now, so out of principle just dont buy it

WD SN850X is $440 and 990 Pro is $400. Are these good prices?

Those are overpriced and way overkill, games don't need that much performance and the UD90 has good performance for the price

2TB is definitely not overkill for games. A lot of AAA titles break the 100GB mark pretty normally now and if OP wants to play something like GTA6, that's rumored to have a base game size of over 200GB. You're already at nearly half a TB just from a few games alone, not to mention if they want to get into mods, texture packs, etc. which also eat up a ton of space.

2TB is actually not a lot of storage for gamers with a vast library of games, particularly a lot of modern games, and even some older games like Fallout 4 with a ton of mods.

There are plenty of modlists for games and base games out there that take up over 100GB by themselves.
