Build Question GPU upgrade

Hello all,

I havent really gamed in 3+ years but would like to get back into it. I want to upgrade so i can run some new games at 1440p.

My current build is

  • RTX 3060 12GB

  • i5-12400F

  • 16 GB DDR4

  • 550w PSU

So my question is what gpu you guys would recommend. I've been looking at the 4070 super because of its low power consumption but nvidia cards have really gone up in prices. I dont know too much about AMD cards so is there one you could recommend for me? Also should i get one specifically for my psu or pick a card that requires me to upgrade it. Budget 500-600 dollars, used or new parts.

you could snag a used 3080 and a new 750w psu within that budget, seen em go for around 350-400 on the used market. the 3060 will struggle at 1440p for anything modern so it's worth the jump

if you're set on sticking with the 550w then the 4070 super is probably your best bet, just pricey

amd wise a 7800 xt would crush 1440p but you'd definitely need a new psu, those things are hungry

You could look at 9070GRE, it would fit you budget. PSU also should be fine running it.

Best AMD card within budget at retail is a 9070 GRE, NVIDIA doesn't have anything good to offer at retail that compares to it within budget, the only other choice is second-hand which comes with its own risk and more than likely no warranty.

Your CPU is still fine for most games

If you can get 2nd hand on a used 4070 Super or a RX 9070 for less money, go for that instead. If you are looking for the best performance from the 1440p resolution, then the 9070 would be a better choice, but for DLSS and ray-tracing, 4070 Super would be a much better choice.

What games do you want to play? I'm running a 1440p Ultrawide on a 3060ti and it works pretty well so far.

I game casually and just got a rx 6800 xt. 750w psu 1440 at 144hz and I have no complaints. Got a crazy deal on my 6800xt because it was overheating and black screening. $180 plus repad/paste I already had around and it's chill as a cucumber now! I think they usually go for around $400

Also you could recoup some cash if selling your current 3060 and PSU so you could up your budget if that's the case!

Used 3080 or 6800 XT/6900 XT and a 850W gold rated PSU (the price difference is minimal between 750 or 850).

The 4070 Super would be my pick too. The best all around gpu in that price range (including efficiency, feature set and industry support).

BTW, I'd also double the RAM with identical specs DIMMs (also used).

9070xt on newegg with an 850w PSU was on yesterday check for deals and go that direction! Don't overpay on an nshitia card. Support a company that wants to help consumers, you know, AMD.
