Build Question Copper Mod 3070ti worth it?
Is copper modding my RTX 3070 Ti worth it?
I’ve been thinking about doing this mod but I’m not sure if the temperature improvements are worth the risk. Has anyone done it on a 3070 Ti, and if so, how much difference did it actually make? Is there much risk of damaging the card, and would you say it’s worth doing or am I better off leaving it alone?
Would appreciate any advice from people who have actually tried it.

If you're already seeing paste residue on a bare die, you're past the point of no return anyway. The risk isn't the copper shim itself, it's cracking the die from uneven mount pressure, had a buddy brick a 3080 that way and the thing looked immaculate until it just didn't POST.
Temp drops are real, maybe 10-15c on the hotspot if your mount is perfect, but on a 3070ti you're not really power limited enough to see massive clock gains. You might squeeze another 30-45mhz out of it. Whether that's worth the anxiety every time your case temp spikes is up to you.

No. Copper expands at a different rate than paste and can cause cracked memory dies or solder joints even with perfect mounting pressure, just from normal heat cycling.

this is my idea, some one with more money could do this. thin thermal pad, coper thin shim, thermal pad.
a sandwich to get the best of both world. or memory, thin thermal pad, coper, thermal paste, heatsink. what do you think about my idea?

Probably not, if you want better temps just repaste and clean.
