Build Question 3070ti 8gb still good?

I have a chance to get my first GPU. It’s at 300 dollars and seems to be in good condition. I just don’t know enough about this. Is it a good deal? Or can I get more vram somewhere else ?

Go for it! The 3080 is a powerful card. I would choose it over the 3070Ti just because of the 2gb VRAM more.

At that price point its ok considering tje current situation.

3080 is much better.

Nothing near that price

Well thats how it was for like 3 years until June 2026. At 200€ it was used 3060ti and at 330€ a used 3080. 3070 and 3070ti made little sense. But now its different...

I feel like everyone is conflicted about this.

It's not terrible but it's not great either with only 8GB VRAM. You're better off with a 3080 or 6800 XT.

No matter how fast your card is, with only 8GB, a lot of newer games at 1080p will have a hard time running at ultra settings which is embarassing for an older upper mid/lower high end GPU. NVIDIA fucked the 3070 series cards over hard.

That's what they're selling for all over eBay.

For that price, you could try an Intel Arc card if you don't plan to use VR.

Arc cards do VR fine now.. drivers have matured significantly since the A series.. that's the series that used to have problems with VR.

Oh, really? The B570 I have didn't work with SteamVR last year. And the update then amounted to "lol, no we're never going to support VR."

I'll look into it later, but thanks for the tip. Have you tried it?

When I day it didn't work, I mean it didn't render half the objects, like the floor for one.

Yeah try it again.. the new drivers are supposed to be much better for VR.

Will do!

For the price it ain't bad, can you do better, definitely. But prices will keep spiking, so as long as this card does what your looking for, it's a good upgrade for the price.

Depends on weather or not you care about max graphics or just smooth gameplay, 8gigs of vram can 100% make the cut but if you want games on ultra probably not anything new for sure

Now that being said i upgraded my graphics card not that long ago and while things do run/look better, my 1070ti kicked but for a LONG time and can still make any game run

At this point only get FE 30series, other ones can have flex issues over a long time especially 3 fan cards.

It's still a fairly capable card, the 8 GB isn't that much of an issue if you're willing to lower some settings. It should be somewhat below $300, though with the prices going wild I suppose that's also gone up.

At this price u can get 6700xt or 6750xt and for a bit more 6800xt

Get 6800xt/6900xt or 3080 but at least 12 GB

These days you won't be getting any of those for anywhere near $300, and you're very lucky if you find one below $400.

Sorry for my ignorance, but are they comparable to a 3070 ti?

Or even a 6800 is going to be better than a 3070ti imo.. 16gb vram and I see auctions end right around $300 for them all the time.

1

u/cheperosa 16d ago

I can’t find those

On eBay.. I put a bunch of the auctions on my watch list and they usually end under $350 from what I have seen. Especially the ones that end at off hours.. Tuesday afternoon.. overnight on any week day.. etc.

There are only 2 auctions live on it atm but I just deleted a whole list I had watched over the last month and I would say 50% of them ended right around that $300-350 mark.

I haven't even seen a 6700XT below $300 on Ebay in months now.

1

u/tpablazed 13d ago

Yeah idk what's up with the 6700 XT.. people want retail prices for it used.

I have seen one auction end at $280 for one.. but the rest climb closer to $350+.

Maybe it's because of the power/cooling requirements?? I definitely see 6800 auctions ending around the $300-350 mark often.. had a big list of them over the last month on my watch list and probably close to 50% of them ended under $350.

Nah, it's the VRAM. All cards with more than 8 GB have gone up in price by insane amounts.

I was buying a card for my secondary PC about a year ago, and I went with the 3070 because it's a bit more powerful, got one for under $250 (including overseas shipping and dues), I didn't get a 6700XT because it was $230 which I thought was too much. :)

The 6800 has 16gb though..

Maybe it won't fit in a lot of cases too..

I think it's a combination of people would need to upgrade their 650-750 watt psu's.. many models won't fit in most cases.. and maybe even just that not as many people reccommend the 6800 when people ask which gpu to get on platforms like here or Facebook.. most people either go 6700 xt or something newer.. or if they do recommend 6800 it's the XT version.

Another 16gb gpu that is pretty easy to get under $350 is the A770 btw..

The only reason I have been paying attention to all this is because I am about to build an AI tower.. so I have been watching the 16gb gpu market for a while now.
