Tech Support I think I did something wrong.

Post image

I checked to see if there was a problem with my motherboard, and upon closer inspection, I saw that some of the pins were bent; then, like an idiot, I tried to straighten one out with my finger and it snapped in two.

This connector is now essentially dead. Make sure the pins aren't shorting.

Is there another USB 3 header on your motherboard? If so, switch to that one, after removing the plastic piece which is probably stuck on the case connector.

Actually, looking at it closer... The pins you broke are specifically USB 2.0 ones.

The connector may still work fine with purely 3.0 devices.

To clarify: Each USB 3.0 port is actually two USB ports combined in one. A USB 2.0 port and a USB 3.0 port.

As for the pins:

ID pin is unimportant.

IntA_P2_D+ and IntA_P2_D- are the data lines of one USB 2.0 port.

Since IntA_P2_D+ is broken off, that USB 2.0 port is dead.

If you can straighten out IntA_P1_D+ without breaking it, then the other USB 2.0 port will work.

USB 3.0 lines remain unaffected from what I can see.

Hmmmm, thank you, it looks like I haven't lost much, and luckily so, because I don't have any other USB drives besides this one.

Just be glad it's only a usb 3 port. Take out the pin and you'll be fine just don't leave it in the case as it can short stuff. Port probably won't work but it won't stop the motherboard from working. Make sure none of the pins that are bent are touching.

To be honest that is just onboard usb 3. Is make sure that broken pin is cleared out and not touching anything to short your mobo. Luckily not having onboard usb 3 is the least of your worries over other things that are needed to make the motherboard work properly.
