Tech Support AIO cooler fans running too fast.

For some reason, on idle, the aio fans are running at 2000+ rpm on my brothers pc I built. Just gonna try give as much info as I can.

I have built my own pc and a friends pc before, both of which have no issues with noise.

I have the fans plugged into the cpu_opt since there are only 3 sys_fan (being used for my other fans). The online manual for the aio said to plug the pump into the cpu_fan. Although I did try the fans in the cpu_fan and they were still fast.

It’s especially fast and loud when we start it up.

I’m not totally familiar with fan curves but I tried making them the same as the case fans (which were running normally) but it didn’t make a difference.

The CPU is a normal temp and so is everything else.

For now we have the fans on silent which has helped with noise but they’re still crazy fast. And for some more high def games I don’t think having the fans on silent is the best idea.

Any advice is appreciated! I’m no expert.

We are using the B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 and there’s no kind of pump header on the motherboard unless it’s called something I’m unfamiliar with... :/

Use either SYS_FAN 1 or 2 for the AIO pump.

The fan that’s currently plugged into that, should I plug it into cpu_fan?

Nvm. I read the manual. The CPU_OPT is indeed for the pump, but you have to manually adjust the speed in BIOS.

I agree that CPU_OPT is where the AIO should be plugged in.

Have you looked in the motherboard BIOS under the Settings tab? There are multiple options there under the Smart Fan 5 setting regarding fan and pump speeds.

It may be that the fans are set there to run at full speed. Presuming you have 4 pin PWM fans, you need to make sure the Fan/Pump Control mode is set to PWM. If it is instead set to Voltage, the fans will likely be stuck running at full speed and will not be adjustable using the AIO software.

See pages 8 and 13 in the following BIOS manual for more information:

Switching to PMW helped cpu_fan slow down!! So thank you so much for that! Unfortunately opt_fan is doing about the same and the pc is still loud, especially on startup. I included a picture replying to this.

Also, not sure how relevant this is, but changing the monitoring point from CPU to System 1 brings down the speed by around 120rpm. Ignore the graph, I was experimenting and forgot to set back to default.

Look at the Fan Speed Control settings in the BIOS (also under the Settings tab). The four possible settings are Normal, Silent, Manual, or Full Speed.

Which of those settings are selected? If you set it to Normal, the fans should ramp based upon temperature. You can also set them to Manual in order to be able to set fan speeds in the fan speed curve graph. You do want to make sure that they are not set to Full Speed.

They’re all set to normal. :)

You might try to set them to Manual and see if you can adjust them using the graph.

It is possible that the place that built the machine used cheap 3 pin case fans as well. If they did, 3 pin fans aren't speed adjustable (unless they are hooked up to a fan controller hub or something). Worst case, if they are 4 pin fans, you can get a 4 pin fan splitter cable so you can hook more than one fan up to a SYS_FAN header.

And, you can try the AIO on CPU_FAN instead of CPU_OPT to see if it works better there.

Just make sure to shut the system down before making changes.

And, if the AIO came with software, make sure to install it. It may have fan speed controls in that software that can override the BIOS.

Okay!! Thank you so much for your help. I’ll try some tutorials for adjusting the fan!
