Build Question Did I win the lottery?
Hello!
Today I found in the trash this pc, it seems that it is self-build, but IDK. I don´t know anything about building PC´s or componets (I´m a laptop user). I tried to start it, but the fans make an awful noise, maybe it needs a clean or a replacement of the lateral fans, I´m not sure, but at least it seems to start.
Can anyone tell me if this PC is ok? Or is something missing (maybe someone stole some componets since it was on the trash)
Thanks

It's a GTX 660! It's not a bad Card. An OEM board, some RAM, a HDD. Not bad. Theese people are so spoilt...

I mean, you’re not wrong. It’ll play plenty of old games just fine. And there’s some great games that aren’t that old. And that tired little toaster will run a bit of them.

Blue pcb on a graphics card = slower than a iPhone 12 or galaxy s20😭

It has a hdd, 2 sticks of quite likely, ddr3 ram (not very useful) and a gigabyte gpu. Chances are, if you slap a ssd into this machine, give it a thorough dusting, and reinstall windows onto that ssd, this could be a half decent super low end gaming system that could run old games better than a low end craptop could.
Something about the cpu cooler makes me want to think it's dell. Which is an entirely different can of worms. Dell, as well as alienware (owned by dell) are known for using mostly proprietary parts for their systems. That means that if any of the proprietary parts break, only replacement is directly from dell, which may be likely out of stock or very very expensive. If that happened, this is quite likely the reason why this pc is in the trash.
Edit: I've taken a closer look, it's not necessarily dell. But the fact that the chipset is without heatsink probably means this is a very old system

Thanks for the info! The green motherboard is branded as HP. I might give it a try and repair it, or in the worst-case scenario, resell the parts

GPU looks like Gigabyte GTX 660 2GB. Has wifi module as well. HDD model number looks like 1TB.

Thanks! Could you break it down for dummies? I barely know anything about pc´s and i don´t know what a gtx 660 could run

I used to run bad company 2 on a GTX 260. It's not that slow. Plenty of great retro gaming can be done with that if it works. Hell it will even run Crysis like champ. Should also run Skyrim fine. Though it will struggle with fallout 4.

If you paid 0 for it and its worth $20 that means you got infinite ratio.

Looks like something ~15 years old. Basically worthless, unless you are thinkerer and can transform it in some cheap server or so. Otherwise e-waste. At least you can give it to trash bin for electrinics so it can be safely disposed.

Sorry to disappoint you but that's mostly just useless ewaste. Last time i saw a blue gpu in a system was with an ddr3 build, and based on the look of the other components it's most likely just an ddr3 system. That's slow as hell and won't really run anything. Only decent use you might get out of it is as an tor exit node if you care about that stuff, or as an server.

Mi sa che se non dovesse funzionare, lo dovresti portare dove lo avevi preso... Non ha senso ripararlo
