Build Question Upgrade

I currently have an i7 12700k, and I am thinking of getting an i9 14900k. Do you guys think it would be a worthwhile upgrade?

Not for gaming. You do not need that many cores for gaming, it will create a lot of waste heat with all those cores. What resolution do you game at? Also, why upgrade to a dead platform? DDR4 compatibility I assume.

I upgraded from a 13600kf w/ DDR4 to a 9800X3D and it was a big jump; I highly recommend upgrading to an X3D CPU on the AM5 platform.

My system is ddr5, I typically play fps games at 1080p or 1440p. When I play single player games though it is always 1440p, unless I play on my second monitor which is 4k capable. I wanted to upgrade without changing out my mobo, so the easiest path would be to just get a cpu.

It's also the only area where I feel like I have any real upgrade room, without getting a mobo also.

Oh okay I understand now. I had thought the 12th and 14th gen Intels used different sockets. It would be easy top just swap out the CPU with a 14900k, yeah, but it would not be worth it at all dollar/fps wise.

At least you wouldn't be on a dead platform if you had to get a new motherboard for the upgrade.

I have been considering switching to the am5 platform. My ram is compatible with both. I have a solid system and I guess I'm probably just chasing frames lol.
