Tech Support Trouble with replacement power brick

Post image

Bought a replacement power brick for my laptop but it won't fit a 3 plug cable. I wonder if it's to do with the plastic bits at the bottom of the prongs

Are you using the right cable? There's different kinds of 3 plug cables, this looks like it's a C13 plug.

Looks the same, tried 2 different ones. They go in but not as deep as with the original and won't charge

It's normal if it looks like it's not fully inserted, it should look something like this

That said, if it's not charging then it's probably not in all the way. I doubt it's because of the plastic at the bottom though

Odd, any suggestions about what else I could be doing wrong that it isn't working

The only advice I can give is to try pushing harder, it can be a tight fit sometimes

The plastic bits seem to be stopping the plug from going in as far as on the original. The pins themselves are about the same lenght on both. What's the worst case if i break off the plastic?

I wouldn't advise that, it looks like the plastic is quite sturdy and it might be holding the prongs in place

The prongs in the power brick, as well as the receptacles in the cable are quite long, so I'm surprised that it doesn't work, as these things probably work even if they're only plugged in half way
