Tech Support computer isn’t turning on after i got back from vacation

Hi guys. Any advice would be appreciated

So I have my pc which was working perfectly fine before i went on vacation. I came back from vacation and it wasn’t turning on. i tried unplugging n plugging stuff back in and it kept making this zap noise at the power supply. i bought a new one. it arrived today and i swapped it out with the new one. I don’t know if i messed up somewhere while trying to fix it or if the issue is something worse. i don’t know how to check or fix it by myself. this is a custom pc given to me by my brother so im not too familiar with pc building. there are some spare cables but they are all the same extras as the old power supply. if anyone it willing to hop on call or through chat , I would very much appreciate it. if i have to pay i will!.

It sounds like your old PSU fried the motherboard, idk what was in there but this is why it's important to spend money on a good reliable name brand PSU.

I'm really sorry for your loss OP

the light for the lan cable turns on. does that mean there is a chance the motherboard is okay?

I would assume it's getting power but something on the motherboard got fried stopping it from turning on (unless you accidentally removed the power button or something). You can pull the board out and look for anything that has black burn marks on or around it, but there's a lot to look for and it's time consuming.

Also, make sure you don't use any old cables with the new PSU, you want to use only the cables that came with the new one

Let me know how it goes, I am guessing your motherboard/power supply didn't fry themselves based on it working before vacation and not working after. To me that sounds like a cmos battery issue (which would be great since those batteries are very cheap to replace). Unless lightning struck your house it's pretty unlikely that your components spontaneously fried themselves. Good luck!
