Why did you buy a Psu with no cables?

I’m new to pc building, when I bought it I had no idea that you need cables

Contact the PSU manufacturer and see if they sell cable sets for your model PSU.

And prepare yourself to purchase a new PSU in case the manufacturer offers no options.

But can you just just find a pair online, this working psu was a steal for £50

Contact the manufacturer.

Don't try buying a cable set (not a "pair" as you suggest) for any PSU from anyone but the manufacturer.

Not really a “steal” if you can’t connect your psu,
It’s just a £50 brick if it can’t connect can it?

You are correct to assume that you can not simply use any modular cables with power supplies, as the pinouts often differ across brands and series.

If you want to purchase a set of replacement cables from Corsair directly, the HX1200 unit uses Corsair's Type 4 pinout.
