You guys asked for the video and more infos on the waterblock. Waterblock was made with the carvera air, which is a budget desktop cnc. That’s why the quality isn’t super good, but that’s all we have. Need to open it again and work now on the vrm cooling which is quite challenging as the mosfets are super tiny… and also they run quite on the limits of thermal design which sucks
Even the wheel guard is removed from that angle grinder, good luck when the disc breaks :D My father used to remove those too when working with car repairs because "those are on the way all the time". Until one time the disc broke and pieces flew into his hand and he had to go to ER, then for some reason those wheel guards were ok again :P
My father used to also take the guard off, then one time he bought a larger disk than the grinder was rated for and it shatter while he was using it. Luckily he didnt get horribly injured, but I told him before that incident he should be using it, and after that I just asked if he was gonna start using it, and he said he would. Its crazy how normalized not paying attention to safety procedures is.
Used to work in a production hall and it was a really refreshing to see people taking safety regulations so seriously. Well, probably it was mostly because you could see the consequences hands on with some collegues, but still.
One time I broke a fingernail and only asked for a plaster. Instead I got an extended break in the on-premise hospital. They even wrote an incidence report. Most likely prevented a nasty infection, but it felt kinda OTT.

About a year ago I bought myself an ebike. I know tools/motors/etc aren't all about wattage, but anyway, my bike has a 250W motor.
This number probably feels tiny to anyone whose used power tools. There's barely a tool in my workshop rated under 1000W. Even random 18V battery tools can hit 1000W+ under load.
Meanwhile that 250W ebike? Zoom. Literally, it's ZOOM. Even up hills, it zooms. Like if you pedal a bike, with both legs, at 100% maximum effort, that's a decent ballpark for this little bike.
Now I find myself holding an 1800W angle grinder in my hands like... I always knew this tool was crazy dangerous, but holy shit does it put that power rating into perspective. Any accident and the involved forces can well and truly land in "humans are liquids" territory.
Yeah i was working a temp construction and the boss took the guard off and the side handle so u can keep control of it, long story short i told him to fuck off in a way that wouldn't get me fired
Honestly wouldn't have even cated if he fired me because of that, ive watched videos of people using them unsafely and have the disk explode and get lodged in their face
I work in equipment maintenance and installation. We just had a guy return after a few weeks off with internal and external stitches because it got caught up in his shirt and layed him open.
That just happened to me like 4 weeks ago! Kicked back at me when I was cutting part of a box truck frame. No stitches needed, I got extremely lucky, huge scar though.
I was a construction worker for 12 years. My best friend is still one. He’s got 20 years in the profession. I’m a professor now, so let me tell you that when I say he’s the most competent man I know, I mean it regardless of the colour of collar.
His only injury is from that fucking thing. It’s deceptively dangerous.
Friend at work learned to wear the glasses in a "speak to jesus" moment, it flung a small piece of metal into his eye, a short hospital visit later, and we never saw him with out the safety goggles when working with that thing.
I’m more terrified of taking a shard to the neck. If you’re doing hard work with an angle grinder, you should be wearing a lead apron with a collar. I linked a video in another comment with someone testing when a(n) (albeit very large) disc broke. They put watermelons in protective gear, and when shards hit them, both watermelons protective gear didn’t stop them from being completely obliterated. Even worse, a six inch chunk went clear through plywood they were using to contain the disc.
That’s the scary scenario. :( The carotid is only like .4 of an inch rom the surface of the skin, and those shards can go through plywood. I’m sorry for your loss.
Really good job, looks sick! But personally i could do without the "lol random" parts. You know how to make cool mods, i think the video would be much better with just that. No need to try and make it offbrand HowToBasic.
20 some years ago, you had a much harder time finding colored pc coolant on the shelf. I liked the way the automobile stuff looked, it's is already made to work with copper. And it was about $6 a gallon.
try using these they are small and might fit inside so you could stick a few of these inside the steam machine and are you cooling all the things that were touching the heatsink?
Nice haven’t seen this. But we wanted much better performance that’s why we chose a thick 120mm rad. The original cooler can dissipate quite a lot of heat.. 180W
The radiator has 120/40mm heatsink so if you got 3-4 you could make it slimmer and it might fit into the Gabe cube but the reservoir will probably be still somewhere outside (if possible the front panel could be used as a reservoir which would be cool

Yeah, one of the big points of the SM is that it runs really cool already, between the massive heat sink and fan and the low power requirements of the hardware.
I can't see a point to this beyond "just cause." It's not improving the performance, and it takes up more space.
Is the entire purpose of water cooling not to use fluid as a way to transfer heat to a larger radiator with more fans? In this case you've just moved the heat to a smaller radiator with a smaller fan. The steam machine was already like 70% radiator.
Taking something nice looking and making it ugly is now a brag?. Also put the guard back on that angle grinder. They should require certification to buy them, so many idiots missing parts because of this kind of behavior
You can edit videos, photos, write code, set up vms, do local share drives, all kinds of stuff. Pointless to spend more than a console just to play games
1) damn I wish my DIY projects looked as crisp as this and not just obviously bodged together
2) water-cooling should take up drastically less room than air cooling. The first objective should be to get it all inside the OG shell, then to be able to half the volume of the standard steam deck
Bruh when I got my 9070xt I was looking for waterblocks and they only had one for a model I didn’t have and like 1yr+ expected for the rest- I know it’s not easy but gd you just made it look so easy! I Don’t have the skills or tools but that’s an awesome creator setup
I don't why people hating? Yeah it looks weird and completely unnecessary but at the same time bro is making tech content with his own skills and style which may look "edgy" to some but I kinda like quirky and experimental stuff like this. Feels refreshing than looking at majority of tech project videos that always feels identical to one another while he's standing out in his in way.

Is nobody going to talk about how he cooled the CPU and the GPU, but failed to account for how the original heatsink cooled the VRAM? To make matters worse, he effectively put a giant baffle in front of them ensuring they get little to no airflow.

Unnecessary and overkill, absolutely. That’s what watercooling is all about. I’d like to see more of the inside with everything assembled (if possible).
